2024 Graduation Letter from Mr. Cookson

Dear Senior Parents/Guardians/Families,

A milestone in the life of your son or daughter will be taking place in less than two months. As with their first steps or words, graduation will be vividly remembered by your family and friends. To keep these memories as positive as possible, it is important that the students remain on task to assure that they earn the credit in their currently enrolled courses. Only those students who have successfully completed all graduation requirements will be participating in commencement.

CEREMONY AND TICKETS
Commencement ceremony will be Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Huntington Center located at 500 Jefferson St., Toledo, OH. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. with admission by ticket only. Seating is on a first come basis, and we encourage arriving together and not attempting to save seats. On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, seniors attending Perrysburg High School will be able to pick up their tickets in the commons during their lunch. Penta Career Center students will be able to pick up their tickets during lunch at Penta in the cafeteria in front of the Perrysburg bulletin board on Thursday, May 2, 2024. No one may pick up tickets other than the student. The student MUST present his or her student ID to receive the tickets. We will have tables setup for this distribution. After May 3, 2024, your senior may pick up their tickets in the cashier’s office, which is located across from the STEM lab at PHS. Each senior will receive eight tickets for family and friends. Students not needing all their tickets are encouraged to make them available for their classmates. Any extra tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis beginning May 17th after graduation practice. The 2024 PHS graduation ceremony will be live streamed and available after the ceremony for purchase.

GRADUATION SURVEY
All seniors must complete the Graduation Survey found in SCOIR under “Surveys”. SCOIR can be accessed through ClassLink. If students have any trouble accessing SCOIR or locating the survey, they should reach out to their school counselor. Final transcripts will be mailed to the university provided by each senior through the Graduation Survey. In addition, we greatly appreciate the students’ feedback. It should be noted that completion of the survey is time-sensitive and should be completed no later than Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Seniors will not be able to pick up their graduation tickets until this survey has been completed.

SENIOR ATTENDANCE
  • Seniors will have exams May 15, 2024 (period 4–11) and May 16, 2024 (period 1-3). Please note, seniors must be at school for their first exam of the day and may only leave when their last exam of the day is finished. They are not allowed to leave and return.
  • Regardless of what you might hear, there is NO senior skip day.

SENIOR VIDEO
The senior video will be shown around 11:15 a.m. in the PHS auditorium on May 16, 2024, following 3rd period exams.

SENIOR GRADUATION PRACTICE on FRIDAY, May 17, 2024
Students will assemble in the PHS main gymnasium at 8:30 a.m. for graduation practice, which will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. in the main gym. This is a mandatory practice for any student who is participating in the ceremony. Students should plan with their employers, family, friends, etc. to be at practice until it is completed. With student cooperation, practice can be completed in three hours or less. Students who do not attend practice WILL NOT participate in the Graduation Ceremony.

GRADUATION DRESS
Clothing should blend with the gown. Men must wear dress slacks (no jeans), dress shirt, tie, and socks. Women may wear a dress, or a dress shirt with skirt or slacks. A flower will be given to each student after they walk across the stage. Students will not be permitted to carry additional flowers, wear corsages, or decorate caps and gowns. Everyone must wear dress shoes; no tennis shoes or casual sandals permitted. Graduates should not bring valuables (purses, cameras, etc.,) since there is no secure storage at the Huntington Center during graduation.

GRADUATION BEHAVIOR
All rules and policies of the school will be enforced through the graduation ceremony. It is expected that all students conduct themselves as the positive role models we all know them to be.

EXPECTATION OF GUESTS
Commencement is a ceremonial occasion to honor graduates for their accomplishments. Guests are asked to refrain from any action that will detract from the dignity and decorum of the ceremony. The traditional tossing of the hats for seniors will be done at completion of the ceremony inside the arena. Please remain in your seat following the ceremony until all seniors have exited the arena.

INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS
Professional photographers (Impulse Studio) will be taking a picture of each student on the stage receiving their diploma. All photos will be posted on impulsesport.net within 24 hours of the event.
