Operating Levy Info - Current Levy Expiring

Ballot Issue Information

Operating Levy Tuesday, November 5, 2024

The Board of Education has placed an 8-year, $2 million incremental operating levy on the Tuesday, November 5, 2024, ballot to replace the current levy that is expiring. Operating levies must be used for day-to-day operating expenses, such as salaries, benefits, utilities and textbooks. This issue is to fund operations by replacing an expiring levy and is not a bond issue for a new school.

Important Information for Taxpayers
•    The projected maximum cost if this issue passes is an additional $4.20 per $100,000 of appraised home value per month beginning in year two of the levy and an additional $4.20 per month per $100,000 of appraised home value for each of the following six years.
•    As the community grows, less millage is needed to collect the dollar amount set by the ballot. In the last year of the expiring 2019 levy, the cost to a homeowner was 69% of what was approved by the voters.
•    Perrysburg High School bond debt mills end in collection year 2025 - 1.85 mills retire - reduction of $5.39/month per $100K appraised home value.

Operating Levy Information

•    Protect – Perrysburg is a growing community, and the school district will use these funds to maintain current educational services for our growing student population, including equipment, staffing and trailers.
•    Performance – Perrysburg Schools’ expenditure per pupil and pupil-administrator ratio are below the state average, yet the school district is in the top 7% in the state for student performance.
•    Impact – This levy accounts for 17% of our school district’s operating budget, contributing over $13 million annually. If the levy fails, the educational experience for students would be significantly impacted. Even if the levy passes in 2025, the district wouldn't receive any additional funding until 2026, meaning reductions would still be required in the interim. If not replaced, over time, budget reductions would be the equivalent of 130 employees.
•    Community – This decision will have a ripple effect in our community and will determine how vibrant and desirable our school district and community are in future years. Home values may be impacted.
