How to Become a School Bus Driver

  1. Visit www.perrysburgschools.net and click on Employment and then click on “Start an Application for Employment.” Please fill out the required fields and mark that you are interested in being a bus driver.
  2. The school district runs a comprehensive Bureau of Motor Vehicles check using a copy of the candidate’s drivers’ license.
    1. OVI or DUI within the past 10 years is disqualifying.
    2. FRA suspension in the past 6 years is disqualifying.
  3. Driver gets a Federal and State background check (at school district expense).*
  4. Driver gets a pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol testing (at school district expense).*
  5. Driver participates in Ohio Department of Education training – either at Penta or Bowling Green: 16 hours of training, 4 hours per day. Classes are offered monthly.
  6. Driver secures temporary Class B CDL from BMV.
  7. Driver receives 12 hours of training with one of Perrysburg’s on-board instructors.
  8. Driver secures Class B CDL with School Bus Passenger Endorsement from BMV (at school district expense).*
*Note: Once fully licensed, the bus driver must commit to driving for Perrysburg Schools for at least one entire school year, or they will be responsible to reimburse the school district for expenses.
