The 2021 Perrysburg Volleyball team has been hitting their stride at a high level so far this season. With a 10-0 perfect start to the season, the coaches and athletes are not surprised, as they have been preparing for this intended outcome. The Varsity Volleyball team is driven mentally and physically this season.
Sixth year head coach for Perrysburg, Laura Davidson, knew from early on in summer training this team was wired differently. “I knew these student-athletes had a lot of potential physically, so we dove in head first working just as much on the mental aspect of the game,” says Davidson. This time taken off court as a team has proven to boost their game play, focus and resiliency as they are now 10-0, undefeated on the season so far.
The Jackets are comprised of a solid line-up. Returning Junior Captain and 2020 Honorable Mention All-State libero, Avery Adamski, is a vocal and physical leader for this team. Davidson says, “Avery is easily one of the best liberos in the state, and her team leadership has grown immensely since her 9th grade year, which has helped take her teammates to another level.” Avery leads the NLL in five digs per set average, also putting her ranked 7th in the state with digs per set.
Another spark on the team is Senior Captain outside hitter, Julia Beer. Beer is a consistent offensive weapon, playing six rotations for the Jackets. “Julia is a silent leader, yet highly respected by her teammates because of her team-oriented attitude, consistent play and steady emotions on the court,” says Davidson. Beer leads the NLL with a 45.1 kill percentage from 111 total kills on the season, 3rd most in the NLL.
Sara Pahl has also been a stand-out six rotation player for the Perrysburg team. Pahl was a 1st team All-NLL and All-District as a sophomore last year at her previous school. Pahl has settled in smoothly becoming a Jacket, putting up big numbers throughout the season so far. Davidson states that, “Sara is a great kid and teammate, her talent on the court has made her a big six-rotation factor for us.” Pahl is ranked 2nd, just below Julia Beer, in the NLL with a .329 hitting percentage, also 4th in the NLL with 3.4 kills per set.
Other players putting up numbers are Junior setter Giana Frayer, who is top in the league with 10 assists per set, sophomore middle blocker Wrigley Takats, who leads the league with 26 total blocks, and senior defensive specialist Payton Blaze, who leads the NLL with 31 service aces.
Perrysburg is hosting their annual Block and Gold volleyball tournament this Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Top teams from all around Ohio will be playing, so come on out to support Perrysburg Volleyball.
