Girls Golf Update

The Perrysburg High School Girls Golf Team traveled to Eagle's Landing in Oregon, Ohio for the NLL tournament last week. The Jackets were undefeated during the regular season and just one win ahead of second place Sylvania Southview. At the end of the day, the Yellow Jackets held off both Southview and a hard charging Anthony Wayne team to claim back-to-back NLL girls golf titles.

Perrysburg finished with a team score of 356, nine strokes ahead of tournament runner-up Anthony Wayne (365). Southview finished in third (382).

"I'm really happy for our girls. I'm especially happy how they got stronger as the tournament went on," said Head Coach Rick Rettig. "Nearly every golfer improved in their second nine holes, which is something that we talked about prior to the match. For such a young team to continue to get stronger as weather conditions got tougher later in the round, I was very proud of their performance."

Leading the way for the Jackets was Sydney Deal. After making the clubhouse turn four under par, the sophomore finished the day as the tournament champion with an eighteen hole round of 69 – 13 strokes ahead of her closest competitor. Sydney was not only tournament medalist, but she also earned NLL Player of the Year.

"Winning the NLL was so exciting for all of us and we worked so hard to get here," said Deal. "I am very happy to be a part of this team. We have come so far since the beginning of the season and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish."

Another sophomore, Ariyah Ellis, finished 5th overall with a score of 91 for the tournament and collected a Second Team NLL honor.

"I feel honored to be a part of such a talented team and to win back-to-back NLL titles," said Ellis. "We have great chemistry and I'm excited for our next two years together."

Two other sophomores, Olivia Eisaman and Paige Feldkamp, rounded out the scoring for Perrysburg with a 94 and 102 respectively. Each player earned Third Team NLL honors.

The lady linksters will start OHSSA sectional tournament play next week at Heather Downs Country Club on Wednesday.
