Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival

Gathering Volumes

Denise Phillips

denise@gatheringvolumes.com

The Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival is a new teen book festival focused on teens and tweens of Northwest Ohio. The Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival team is an all-volunteer group made up of lovers of literature, who have come together to create a fantastic opportunity for teens from Northwest Ohio and the surrounding area to meet their favorite authors and discover new authors.
Book Festivals help keep teenagers reading for pleasure. Reading on their own develops stronger social skills, vocabulary and writing skills, helps them understand & process more complex ideas, expands their ability to build knowledge, and clarifies their career goals.
The Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival will be held at Bowsher High School on May 2 from 9:30 to 3:30 and will include 20 authors! The author lineup has been announced on the website: http://nwoteenbookfest.com/ and the final schedule will be announced in the coming weeks!

Edible Book Festival

Community

Gathering Volumes

Denise Phillips

denise@gatheringvolumes.com

The International Edible Book Festival is an annual event held on April 1. The global event has been celebrated since 2000 in various parts of the world, where "edible books" are created, displayed, and events are held. The creations are photographed and then consumed. Events are held in Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, The Netherlands, Russia, Hong Kong, and the U.S. The event was initiated by Judith A. Hoffberg and Béatrice Coron in 2000 to commemorate "the birthday of French gastronome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755–1826), noted for his book Physiologie du goût, a witty meditation on food."
We also like to think that it is the perfect day to eat your words and play with them as the 'books' are consumed on the day of the event (cf. The Phantom Tollbooth, as regards eating one's words.)
Official Schedule:
5 pm: Submission Drop-Off
5:30 pm: Public Viewing/Tasting ($3 fee to be donated to The Buster Foundation)
6:30 pm: Melissa Storm author of "The Sunday Potluck Club" (Kensington) following by announcement of the winning Edible Books
Officials Rules:
The only rule is to make edible art that has something to do with books as shapes and/or content. Gathering Volumes will have 2 categories of entries, submissions that look like books and submissions that are book related. The winner of each category will win an ARC and a gift certificate to Gathering Volumes!
So, we are asking you to come "eat your words" with us, meet author Melissa Storm, and help raise money for The Buster Foundation of Belleville, MI. The Buster Foundation is a Pit Bull rescue organization and we selected by author Melissa Storm, who will be joining us at 6:30 pm to discuss her latest, "The Sunday Potluck Club." Not surprisingly, there is a pit bull in "The Sunday Potluck Club" :)

Open Studio Exploration

Create: Art Studio and Workshop

This class is inspired by the TAB philosophy of art curriculum. Students in Teaching for Artistic Behavior programs experience artistic thinking and making through self-direction. Teachers respond to their progress with a flexible curriculum that adapts to their emergent ideas. This is the perfect class for the creative child who wants to expand on their personal creativity and ideas. Students will be given direction on how best to use supplies and materials, but will be given the opportunity to freely create. Inspiration will be provided if needed;). Students will have access to the large variety of supplies available at the studio. Each week there will be a different medium for exploration: drawing materials, watercolors, tempera paint, pastels, acrylic paint and sculpture. What they decided to create with these materials will be their choice. We are extremely excited to see the inventive works that will materialize!

Tutor Doctor NW Ohio is a locally (Perrysburg) owned business providing in home one on one tutoring for students from K - 12th grades using their current school curriculum. My tutors consist of college students (must be in 2nd year and carry at least a 3.0 GPA), Grad students and retired teachers. All my tutors are employees of Tutor Doctor and are certified in both our tutoring skills program along with our X-Skills program and have completed a criminal background check.
If your student is struggling with his or her academics we can help! My tutors will come into your home around your schedule to help your students cope and conquer any academic struggles they may be facing. We also work with time management through our X-Skills program (timely turn in of homework, study time and fitting all their daily activities into their academics).
If you are interested, please contact us at 419-951-0682 or email me at brickman@tutordoctor.com to schedule an in-home no cost consultation to go over the program.
