This newsletter is published quarterly and is brought to you by the PHS School Counseling Office and the College Advising Office. Filing Your Taxes for Free
Did you know if you have an income of $66,000 or less you may file your taxes for free by going to myfreetaxes.com? This is a great way to get started early on filing! This free program is sponsored by H&R Block and The United Way.

Course Registration
Counselors will be talking with students currently in grades 9-11 during English classes January 31-February 2. They will be discussing course registration for next school year. Students will have the week of February 2-9 to decide their plans for classes next school year. Then on Wednesday, February 9, PowerSchool registration will open to all students. It will stay open until Tuesday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m., when the registration window officially closes.
All applications are due to teachers for classes with that prerequisite on the 22nd as well. There will be NO SCHEDULE CHANGES. Please contact your school counselor with any questions about this process.

Junior College Information Night
An informational night for parents and guardians of current juniors will be held Wednesday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium. The purpose of this presentation will be to go over the college admissions process, including information about signing up for the ACT and SAT, going on campus visits, applying to colleges and searching for scholarships. Don't miss this important presentation!

Volunteer/Service Opportunities
There are many opportunities to volunteer within our community. If you would like more information on how you can make a difference in your community, please join one of the school clubs that focuses on serving others and volunteering - the Interact Club and Key Club. This is their primary focus and they can provide many resources. If you would like to learn more about these clubs, the advisor for Interact Club is Mrs. Camp and the advisor for Key Club is Ms. Burks.

The HUB - New link to School Counseling Webpage
The School Counseling webpage will launch a link to the new version of the HUB very soon. The information provided within the HUB will consist of registration information, scheduling, course planning guides, graduation requirements and planning and exploring for the future. This is an easy way to access information during the registration process.

New Face in the Counseling Office
Meet Mr. Michael Bishop, Ms. Burks’ practicum student spring semester. He is getting his Master's of Education in School Counseling from Bowling Green State University, where he also received his undergraduate degree in Human Development & Family Studies. He is from Rossford, Ohio, but finished high school at Robert S. Rogers in Toledo, Ohio. One of the most important things to him is music. He played the Alto Saxophone from 6th grade all the way through university, playing in BGSU's Falcons Marching Band, and he even joined the music fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi. Outside of music, he enjoys traveling with friends and family and playing video games. He is excited to be able to work with the staff members and students at Perrysburg High School!

College Credit Plus Program
Students have the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school through Ohio's College Credit Plus (CCP) program. Families and students must view the CCP required video posted on the School Counseling HUB website. This is a mandatory state requirement to participate in the CCP program. Each school year, prospective CCP students must watch the updated video as laws and rules change. For students who are interested in CCP, they must also fill out the 2022-2023 Letter of Intent, which will be available electronically at the same location. The state deadline to complete this form is April 1st. Failure to complete these initial steps will eliminate your eligibility to take any college coursework in the 2022-23 school year. If you have any questions about this program, please contact your school counselor.

Penta Career Center
Penta Career Center applications are open and accepted until seats are full. The priority deadline was January 10th. You may still turn in an application after this deadline but sooner is better as it will be first come, first served. Please have conversations at home and with your counselor about how the right Penta Career Center program can prepare you for life after high school in a college program or the world of work.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
If students are looking for ways to learn more about future career possibilities, they are encouraged to investigate a summer enrichment opportunity! There are a multitude of programs available all across the country in different career fields. A list of the programs PHS has been notified about may be found at this link but students are also encouraged to seek out their own programs or look through national search tools such as TeenLife.com. Many of these programs may still be virtual. Be sure to look into these soon as many have deadlines throughout January and February.

Scholarship Information for Seniors
A list of scholarships available to the Class of 2022 is updated on the spreadsheet linked here throughout the school year, although January and February are the months with the highest volume of scholarships available. In February, every senior will be able to fill out the Local Scholarship Common Application. Filling out this one scholarship application puts students in the running for over 50 local scholarships (including all scholarships through the Perrysburg Schools Foundation). Keep an eye out for more information about the application in February. Finally, be sure to check the Greater Toledo Community Foundation website for their universal scholarship application that puts students from Northwest Ohio in the running for 60+ local scholarships! Most have a deadline of February 11th.
