Spotlight - Program

PHS Community Instruction Class

On October 19, Costco welcomed 15 Perrysburg High School students by giving them a tour of the various jobs available at Costco, ending with delicious pizza for lunch! The students that attended have been focusing on career opportunities for the future, and spent time researching jobs that interest them. The students arrived at Costco full of questions, and the employees at Costco were very helpful and willing to give insight on the jobs available. Costco welcomed all students by giving them a tour, showing them the various jobs and letting them try samples.

The students received a tour of each department, led by an employee of Costco. Some of the favorite sections were the Electronics Department and the Bakery. The students were able to ask questions to learn about what a job in the electronics department would entail; they even got educated on new technology available. The students also really enjoyed the “behind the scenes” work in the bakery. They were able to watch a baker frost and decorate a cake, observe the packaging of bakery items and ask questions about the type of training and education required for the positions.

The students who participated all have special needs; they participate in a Community Instruction Class where they explore the many different jobs available to them. Costco was more than welcoming, providing a real-life experience to the classroom research, working hard to make sure that the experience was educational, fun and engaging.

Victor Konczal
Ft. Meigs Elementary School

Victor KonczalVictor Konczal is always willing to help out his peers and teacher, and he brings an amazing sense of humor and wit with him!

“Victor always tries his best, even if things are hard!” explained Shauna Hunter, his 4th Grade Teacher at Ft. Meigs Elementary School. “Victor is sometimes shy, but once he warms up he shows just how smart he is. He also always uses good manners and is respectful. During partner or group work, Victor does a great job keeping his group on task. Victor is a true SUPERHERO!”

We’re so proud of you, Victor!

Spotlight - Employee

Jason Hubbard, STEM Instructor
Frank Elementary/Woodland Elementary

Jason HubbardJason Hubbard is always busy making sure his students at Frank and Woodland have the best tools and activities to advance their STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

“We’re so lucky to have Jason’s energy and expertise,” stated Principal Dr. Chad Warnimont. “Not only does he do a great job engaging our students in STEM, but he often goes above and beyond the call of duty to help our students outside of the school day, which often also includes forging partnerships that are mutually beneficial in the community, and even overseas!”

Jason Hubbard is facilitating a Mini Maker Faire at Barnes & Noble in the Fallen Timbers Mall (in conjunction with Frank Student Council) on November 6. This will be a great opportunity for students to engage in many STEM activities with Mr. Hubbard. Also, for whatever attendees purchase at the store, Frank Student Council will get a percentage of the proceeds.

4th grade STEM classes participated in an action research project with The Creativity Hub, game company in Ireland. They released their mini-documentary, featuring some of our amazing Woodland and Frank students, along with other young designing minds at Baltimore Design School and The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth.
