Perrysburg Rowing Club travels to Columbus for Second Regatta of the Season

Perrysburg Rowing Club traveled to Columbus for their second regatta of the season, The Hoover, hosted by Westerville Crew on Saturday, April 20. The team raced 12 boats against crews from 18 visiting teams, including local competitors Black Swamp rowing, and an overall event total of 201 boats racing, making for an exciting and competitive day of rowing.

To start the day, the Men's Varsity 8+ with Oliver Durham, Nick Kucic, Miller Zachel, Sam Miller, Alex Waddell, Drew Disalle, Evan Smith, Ethan Pryor and coxswain Ethan Gruden finished fourth in their final with a time of 7:10 on a 2000 meter course, defeating Great Miami Rowing.

Next up, the Men's Novice 4s, with Shane Rolland, Oni Ahmetaj, Sam Zachel, Zach Kim and coxswain Isaac Burkin in the A boat, and Keith Ohanian, Jacob Gerken, Xander Zarobinski, Landon Waddell and coxswain Ethan Kim in the B boat, finished 8th and 14th out of 18 boats, respectively, with times of 7:53 and 8:12, defeating top boats from competitors Upper Arlington and Dublin.

After that, our Women's JV 4 with Alice Schmidt, Kennedy Rowley, Emma Michael, Anna Harbauer and coxswain Jacob Neifert finished 17th out of 22 boats with a time of 8:32, defeating local competitors Black Swamp Rowing.

Later on, the Men's JV 4 with Drew Disalle, Alex Waddell, Ethan Pryor, Evan Smith and coxswain Ethan Kim finished 8th in their time trial with a time 7:34, defeating top boats from Dublin and Upper Arlington.

Following the Men's JV 4, the Men's Novice 8 with Sean Kucic, Evan White, Thomas Demtsu, Oni Ahmetaj, Andy Gudgeon, Elijah Mati, Ethan Gruden, Sam Szymanski and coxswain Courtney Louderback finished 9th in their event with a time of 7:48, defeating Dublin Crew.

Lastly, our Women's Varsity 4x had an exciting and competitive day of racing, finishing third overall and earning bronze medals. To start the day, this crew consisting of Julia Lee, Kiran Dahnke, Grace Burkin and Molly Mies finished 2nd in their heat, and fourth across both heats, with a time of 8:22.5, advancing them to finals in the afternoon. In an exciting come-from-behind finals race, Perrysburg Rowing Club cheered on the Women's 4x as they moved past Indianapolis crew at the 1000 meter mark to secure their third place finish.

Other crews competing were the Women's Varsity 8, Men's and Women's JV 8s and the Men's and Women's Varsity 4s. Next week, Perrysburg Rowing Club heads to Michigan to compete in a scrimmage race at Kensington Metropark in Milford Township, facing competition from Northville Rowing Club, Cranbrook Kingswood Rowing, Central Catholic Rowing Club and St. Francis de Sales High School rowing.
