She is now in her Master's at Bowling Green State University studying School Counseling and plans to graduate May 2020. She will be a great resource to the students, parents and community of Perrysburg. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns throughout the semester.

Filing Your Taxes for Free
Did you know? If you have an income of $66,000 or less you can file your taxes for free by going to myfreetaxes.com. This is a great way to get started early on filing! This free program is sponsored by H&R Block and The United Way.

PSAT Results
A representative from the College Board presented to parents on Tuesday, January 8th about PSAT results. All sophomores and some freshmen and juniors took the PSAT in October. The representative reviewed a sample score report and assisted with interpretation of scores. The representative also discussed how to utilize these scores to prepare for the SAT. If you have not yet reviewed your PSAT score from October or need assistance with it’s interpretation, please see Mrs. Czech.

Crisis Text Line
You are not alone! In the age of smart phones, it seems that people, particularly youth, are fixated on text messaging as a means of communication. Despite having many hotlines to help young people cope with a mental health crisis, you traditionally have had to call into these services. Any person may need help in coping with a stressful situation. Reach out by text to communicate with someone trained to listen and respond in a method that is private, secure and confidential. Courtesy of Crisis Text Line, Ohioans of any age can text the phrase “HOME” to 741741 and receive a response from a live, trained volunteer within 5 minutes (“Code Orange” - more severe texts - are handled in an average of 1.8 minutes). Volunteers can then help the texter move from a moment of crisis to a calmer place.

College Admissions Info Night
Representatives from The Ohio State University's admissions office will be giving a presentation on the college admissions process for interested students and their parents on Monday, February 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. They will discuss the different pieces of the college application and how holistic admission decisions are made. The information will be beneficial for all of those planning to apply to college, not just those planning to apply to Ohio State. We hope to see you there for this important presentation!

Curriculum Fair & Course Registration - NEW PROCESS
Our registration process will kick off with the Curriculum Fair on Wednesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. with a meeting for the incoming 9th graders, then the Curriculum Fair at 7:15 p.m. The process for registering for classes has changed for this year. Information will be sent out to all students soon explaining this new process. Registration meetings will take place at the High School on February 11, 12 and 13 in the English classes.

College Credit Plus Program
Students have the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school through the College Credit Plus program. PHS will hold an informational meeting for those interested in CCP on Monday, February 11th  at 7:00 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium. Attendance at this meeting and completed paperwork are required for any student planning to take college courses the following school year. If you have any questions about this program, please contact your school counselor.

College Preview Night
College Preview Night will be held on Wednesday, March 6, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Owens Community College. This is your chance to talk with representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and more! There will also be presentations on how to get financial aid, plan for college and prepare for the ACT.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
If students are looking for a way to learn more about future career possibilities or to experience what life is like living on a college campus, they are encouraged to investigate a summer enrichment opportunity! There are a multitude of programs available all across the country in different career fields. A list of the programs PHS has been notified about can be found here but students are also encouraged to seek out their own programs or look through national search tools such as TeenLife.com. If there is a college a student would like to visit, they may check the school’s web site for a summer program as most offer at least one. Be sure to look into these soon as many have deadlines throughout January and February!

Scholarship Information for Seniors
A list of scholarships is updated on Naviance throughout the school year, although January and February are months with the highest volume of scholarships available. You may find the list under the Colleges tab (click “scholarships & money” then “scholarship list”). Also in February, every senior will be able to fill out the Local Scholarship Common Application. Filling out this one scholarship application puts students in the running for over 50 local scholarships (including all scholarships through the Perrysburg Schools Foundation). Keep an eye out for more information about the application in February! Finally, be sure to check the Toledo Community Foundation website for their numerous scholarship opportunities! www.toledocf.org
