“New Kids on the Block” Program at elementary schools August 14th

The Perrysburg elementary school counselors have scheduled the annual “New Kids on the Block” orientation program at Frank, Fort Meigs, Toth and Woodland schools for Monday, August 14 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. in each elementary building. This program is open to students in grades 1-4 who will be new to one of these buildings this fall.

The New Kids program originally was designed to aid families who were new to the Perrysburg community in making a smooth transition to a new school environment. Through the years, the definition of new has expanded to include those children who have moved from one residence to another within Perrysburg and will be attending a different school this fall. Also invited to this program are students who have not actually moved but are simply transferring to a new building through the district’s intra-district open enrollment option or from charter or private schools.

At the “New Kids on the Block” orientation program, which lasts an hour, new students will be dropped off and have an opportunity to meet other new students as well as their classroom Big Buddies. Buddies are student volunteers who are trained to welcome new students. Pizza and pop will be provided for the students participating in the program. If your child is unable to eat pizza, please feel free to bring an alternative option for them.

Although it can be scary to drop your children off in a new situation, elementary counselors ask that parents and guardians drop their children off for the program, which will provide students the opportunity to interact independently with each other. The elementary counselors appreciate your understanding as everyone works together to help with this transition. Once the students have enjoyed the time at the program and getting to know their Big Buddies, parents and guardians may pick up their children at 5:30 p.m.

The Perrysburg elementary school counselors are: Jason Koval – Toth, Christin Lee - Fort Meigs, Alyssa Neumeyer – Frank and Nikki Ohms – Woodland.
