PHS will host Career Day on March 23, 2017 for students of all grade levels. Freshmen and Sophomores will attend five different presentations at the high school given by our alumni, parents and community members. Students will be able to select sessions from a variety of careers. Juniors and Seniors are expected to plan this day as a College Visit day or Career Visit (job shadow) day. Start scheduling these college visits today by going to the web site of the university of your choice and click on “Visit (or Tour) Campus.”
Questions and comments can be forwarded to Christin Lee, School Counselor, at [email protected].

College and Career Planning 101

During the week of April 10th (April 10-13) we have an exciting opportunity for juniors called Lunch and Learn: College & Career 101, which will provide students information about the college process and help lessen the stress for their senior year. Students will be able to attend the informational sessions during their lunch period in the Media Center and learn more about a variety of topics, such as: Exploring Careers/College Majors, Building a Resume, Factors in Admissions and the College Application Process and Financial Aid/Scholarships. The sessions are limited to 50 students, so it will be on a first come, first served basis. Students will be expected to attend all four sessions. Interested students can sign up on Naviance by going to the “Colleges” tab under “Upcoming College Visits.”

Service Academies

Interested in learning more about the application process for the Air Force, Military, Naval and Merchant Marine Academies? United States Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman will be sponsoring an informational session about these opportunities on Thursday, April 13 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in room 316 of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union at Bowling Green State University. *Please RSVP to [email protected] or [email protected] if you are planning to attend.

Decision Day

May 1 is the nationally recognized date most seniors must inform colleges of their plans to enroll. This year we will be celebrating our seniors’ decisions to attend college on Thursday, April 27. On this day, we ask seniors to wear a T-shirt from the college they are planning to attend. If a senior is not planning to go directly to college after high school, they are encouraged to wear a shirt from their favorite college sports team. Seniors are then invited down to the Media Center during their lunch period for a FREE lunch. So get your college T-shirt ready and we will see you there!

Seniors - Scholarship Letters

Reminder to seniors - please bring in copies of ALL scholarship award notifications you have received (even from schools you are not planning to attend) to the Counseling office by Friday, April 28. These scholarships will be listed in the graduation program. Individual dollar amounts will not be listed but a grand total will be announced for the Class of 2017.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities

We have reached the time of year when we start to get numerous notifications from colleges and universities about their upcoming summer enrichment opportunities. These are extremely valuable experiences where high school students have the opportunity to participate in academic programs on college campuses. Some include the opportunity to live in college residence halls throughout the session. In an effort to keep you informed about these opportunities, we keep an updated list of links for these programs on our web site here.

You may look through these links and select a program that might be of interest to you based on location of the program and area of interest. We hope you will consider participating in one of these fabulous programs!
