Don’t miss this opportunity to kick off your child’s journey to college!

Free ACT Prep Workshop

PHS is pleased to offer a free ACT Test Prep workshop to all interested sophomores and juniors. The sessions will take place during the Enrichment time (8:30-9:15 a.m.) on Wednesday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 27 in the Auditorium. Our presenter will be Ed Zarnik from the Huntington Learning Center. Students must register on Naviance to attend these sessions. If a student registers, they are committing to attend both sessions. Please register as soon as possible.

Registration

Our registration process will kick off with the Curriculum Fair on Wednesday, February 3 at 6:30 p.m. with a meeting for the incoming 9th graders, then the Curriculum Fair will begin at 7:15 pm. Registration meetings will take place at the High School on February 8, 9 and 10. Students will then be requesting teacher recommendations for advancement to the next level for the 2016-2017 school year. Applications for registration are due to English teachers on Thursday, February 18.

College Goal Sunday

This event will take place on Sunday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at The University of Toledo. This is an opportunity for students and families to receive free assistance and complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is a required form to apply for all Federal aid programs, many state programs, and even institutional aid programs, which can help pay for higher education opportunities. It is your chance to complete the FAFSA with experts and get answers to the financial aid questions you may have. It doesn’t matter what college you attend or are planning to attend – you are welcome at any site location. For more information access the web site - http://www.ohiocollegegoalsunday.org.

President’s Day

On Monday, February 15 we do not have school in recognition of President’s Day. Students are encouraged to use this day off from school to visit a college or university. Many colleges and universities are open on Presidents’ Day and host large visit day programs for prospective students.

College Credit Plus Program

Students also have the opportunity to earn early college credit through the College Credit Plus program for their academic/core classes. PHS will hold an informational meeting for those interested in CCP on February 18, 2016 (evening of parent-teacher conferences). Attendance and completed paperwork are required for any student planning to take college courses the following school year. More information on this will be shared later in the school year. Students and parents with any questions are encouraged to meet as early as possible with their PHS counselor to help them with any questions they may have.

College Preview Night

College Preview Night will be held on Wednesday, March 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Owens Community College. This is your chance to talk with representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and more! There will also be presentations on how to get financial aid, plan for college and prepare for the ACT.

Career Day at Perrysburg High School

PHS will host a Career Day on April 15, 2016 for students of all grade levels. Freshmen and Sophomores will attend four different presentations at the high school given by our alumni, parents and community members. Students will be able to select sessions from approximately 25 different careers. Juniors and Seniors are expected to plan this day as a College Visit day or Career Visit (job shadow) day. Start scheduling these college visits today by going to the web site of the university of your choice and click on the “Visit (or Tour) Campus.” Further details will be provided to students and parents in the coming months as this exciting event approaches. Questions and comments can be forwarded to Christin Lee, School Counselor, at [email protected].

Local Scholarship Information for Seniors

A list of scholarships is updated on Naviance throughout the school year. You may find the list under the Colleges tab (look for “scholarship list”). Also, in February every senior should fill out the Local Scholarship Common Application. Filling out this one scholarship application puts you in the running for over 50 local scholarships (including all scholarships through the Perrysburg Schools Foundation). Keep an eye out for more information about the application in February!
