Students will be able to apply and receive an admissions decision within 15 minutes plus the application fee will be deferred. There is nothing to lose! Also, if students do not apply to BGSU by January 15, they will not be eligible for merit scholarships. Please let Mrs. Czech know if you (or your student) want to attend this event.

The representative will also discuss how to utilize these scores to prepare for the SAT.

College Credit Plus Program

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school through the College Credit Plus program. PHS will hold an informational meeting for those interested in CCP on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium. Attendance at this meeting and completed paperwork are required for any student planning to take college courses the following school year. If you have any questions about this program, please contact your school counselor.

Registration meetings will take place at the High School on February 13, 14 and 15. Students will then be requesting teacher recommendations for advancement to the next level for the 2017-2018 school year. Applications for registration are due February 23 and registration forms are due to English teachers on March 3.

Sophomore Parent Night

Sophomore parent night, being held in the PHS Auditorium on Monday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m., is designed to introduce the parents/guardians of sophomore students to the college application process. A timeline of events for the next several years will be shared, as well as detailed information about the ACT/SAT, campus visits and financial aid/scholarships.

Presidents' Day

A day off for Perrysburg students, but a great day to go visit a university that is in session. Many universities have visit day programs at their institution. The best way to find out is to contact their Admissions Office or visit the university's web site to get more information.

College Preview Night

College Preview Night will be held on Wednesday, March 8, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Owens Community College. This is your chance to talk with representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and more! There will also be presentations on how to get financial aid, plan for college and prepare for the ACT.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities

If students are looking for a way to learn more about future career possibilities or to experience what life is like living on a college campus, they are encouraged to investigate a summer enrichment opportunity! There are a multitude of programs available all across the country in different career fields. A list of the programs PHS has been notified about can be found here but students are also encouraged to seek out their own programs. If there is a college a student would like to visit, they should check the school’s web site for a summer program as most offer at least one. Be sure to look into these soon as many have deadlines throughout January and February!

Honors Diploma Information - New Criteria

In the past to receive a traditional diploma with honors, a student would attain 7 of the 8 criteria needed that are listed in the student handbook. There are three new options now, which have been added to the traditional option, that a student can do to attain either a STEM Honors Diploma, Arts Honors Diploma and/or a Social Science and Civic Engagement Honors Diploma. For more information about this, please contact your school counselor.

Scholarship Information for Seniors

PSF Scholarship PresentationA list of scholarships is updated on Naviance throughout the school year, although January and February are months with the highest volume of scholarships available. You may find the list under the Colleges tab (look for “scholarship list”). Also, in February, every senior will be able to fill out the Local Scholarship Common Application. Filling out this one scholarship application puts students in the running for over 50 local scholarships (including all scholarships through the Perrysburg Schools Foundation). Keep an eye out for more information about the application in February!

Scholarship Opportunities for Undocumented and Underrepresented Students

There are several programs available to students who are undocumented or who come from an underrepresented group. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to: Gold Door, Dream US and Questbridge Scholarship Programs. Some of the deadlines are coming up soon in February and March for Juniors. If you are interested or would like more information, please see Mrs. Czech.

Spotlight On Hillsdale College

Hillsdale CollegeLocated in Hillsdale, Michigan and founded in 1844, Hillsdale College is an independent, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with a student body of about 1,400.

Student body: Hillsdale’s founders opened the doors to all, regardless of race or religion. It was the first college in Michigan, and the second in the United States, to admit women on par with men. Its cosmopolitan student body is assembled from homes in forty-seven states and eight foreign countries. All students on campus follow Hillsdale’s Honor Code that asks students to commit themselves to self-government.

Cost: Hillsdale’s cost of attendance is significantly less than other nationally ranked, private liberal arts colleges. However, Hillsdale is unique in that they refuse to accept any federal or state aid. Instead of having students and parents complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, they have incoming students complete the Hillsdale College Confidential Family Financial Statement (CFFS). They assist students in paying for college through donations. They have been rated #1 Best Value for Public & Private Colleges in Michigan.

Academics: A classical liberal arts core curriculum required of all students rooted in the Western philosophical and theological tradition.
