About Perrysburg Orchestra 
 

History

The Perrysburg High School Orchestra program has grown from 11 members in 1997 to over 300 students currently participating. Perrysburg is one of the few high schools in the state to offer six different orchestras. Each orchestra is designed to appropriately challenge the student and refine their musical abilities. All orchestra students have the opportunity to participate in OMEA Solo and Ensemble contest, State Orchestra Competition, OMEA Honors and Regional Orchestras, small ensembles, fiddlers and an electric rock orchestra.

PHS Orchestra students have performed in Chicago, New York City, Chattanooga, Nashville, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and have also traveled to Hungary, Budapest, Vienna and England. The orchestras have received 12 Gold ratings competing in The World Strides Hertiage Series and Dixie Classic Festivals. PHS Orchestras have been accepted numerous times to participate in The Festival of Gold competition and have ben twice name Grand National Champions.

Since 2001, PHS Orchestras have received 30 Superior Ratings at OMEA State Competition. The PHS Select Strings have had the honor of performing for the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) convention in 2017 as part of the National Orchestra Festival. PHS Orchestras have also had the honor of performing for the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) as a premiere ensemble in the 2007, 2009 and 2018 Conventions. 

Program Goals

To encourage and promote orchestra activities within the Perrysburg School District at various grade levels and to support the education and instruction of Perrysburg School students in musical and orchestra skills.

To provide opportunities for Perrysburg School students to participate in a wide range of orchestra activities which is to include musical and instrumental activities.

To engage in other educational and charitable endeavors.

Awards & Recognitions

  • In March 2017, the Perrysburg High School Select Strings performed and compete at the American String Teacher’s Association (ASTA) conference in Pittsburgh
  • Since 2001, the PHS Orchestras have received 30 Superior Ratings at OMEA State Orchestra Competition
  • PHS Orchestras have also had the honor of performing for the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) state convention as a premiere ensemble in 2007, 2009, and 2018 as well as PJHS Orchestras in 2015
  • Many of our high school orchestra students qualify and participate in OMEA All-State Orchestra every year
  • PHS Orchestra students have performed in Chicago, New York City, Chattanooga, Nashville, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and have also traveled to Hungary, Budapest, Vienna and England

  • Perrysburg Schools have been named one of National Association of Music Merchants' (NAMM) 100 Best Communities for Music Education for the last 10 years in a row
  • Many of our students continue playing at the college and professional levels
  • All orchestra students have the opportunity to participate in OMEA Solo and Ensemble contest, State Orchestra Competition, OMEA Honors and Regional Orchestra, small ensembles, fiddlers and an electric rock orchestra
