Norah Pierce Incoming 7th Grader Perrysburg Junior High School |

As the last school year came to a close, Hull Prairie Intermediate School's 6Green team decided to shine a spotlight on Norah Pierce. “We have had the opportunity to see Norah grow over the past two years into an exemplary leader who embodies the values of the Jacket Way,” the team shared.
Norah takes pride in our school and is willing to help in any way she can. She was chosen to lead tours to incoming fourth graders, which was a role where she flourished. Her excitement about Hull Prairie Intermediate was evident in the way she spoke about it to the younger students. She also served on the student advisory boards when HPI was visited by the Ohio STEM Learning Network and other groups. She is respectful to all she encounters.
Norah is a very responsible student. She makes decisions carefully and is always looking ahead. She helped keep the school tidy and organized and is willing to go above and beyond to help – be it a fellow classmate, a teacher or a guest in the school. She spreads joy to everyone she meets and genuinely wants to help others.
She is ready for any challenge and always pushes herself to be the best she can be while motivating others to do the same. Her talents extend beyond the classroom as she is involved in many outside activities such as gymnastics. We are excited to see where Norah’s future takes her!
Good luck next school year at PJHS, Norah! We are so proud of you!

Rick Gilts

Rick Gilts is the Dispatcher for the Perrysburg Schools Transportation Department. As a dispatcher, he fields phone calls, helps the drivers in times of need and covers as a bus driver when we experience a shortage. “Rick is always very positive and eager to help our students and staff in any way possible!” shared Courtney Parr, Director of Transportation for Perrysburg Schools.
Rick is a retired police chief for the City of Perrysburg and is also currently active in Rotary Club.
“Rick has a great rapport with his colleagues and is always willing to help!” added Ms. Parr. “He has been a tremendous contributor to the success of the Perrysburg Schools Transportation Department.”

Helmstetter attends Prestigious Supreme Court Training |

 | Dominic Helmstetter, Social Studies Teacher at Perrysburg High School, traveled to Washington, D.C. June 8 - 13, 2023 to attend the prestigious Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers. After a highly competitive application process, 60 teachers were selected nationwide to participate this year. The Institute, open to teachers in the fields of law-related and civic education, is co-sponsored by Street Law, Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society.
The Institute offers teachers the opportunity to study recent Supreme Court cases in detail and learn innovative teaching methods for conveying this information to students. Well-known Supreme Court lawyers, reporters, scholars and educators were among the speakers and instructors for the Institute. |

Czech awarded OACAC Life Membership Award |

Lindsey Czech, Director of College Advising for Perrysburg Schools, was presented the 2023 Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling Life Membership Award at the OACAC Conference!
The Life Member Award gives life membership in Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling to recognize long and meritorious service to the profession. The award also recognizes significant participation and contributions to the activities of OACAC. |

PHS hosts Behavior Leadership Academy Training |
Perrysburg Schools hosted two, three-day sessions of Behavior Leadership Academy Training in June and July. Over 200 educators from more than a dozen school districts attended in June, including about 50 from Perrysburg Schools. The Behavioral Leadership Academy Training, presented by Scott Ervin, “The Kid Whisperer,” is designed to provide educators with procedures and strategies to create a calm, loving, inclusive and equitable environment for students.
After a large number of Perrysburg Schools educators participated last summer, the school district took steps to become a host site to help offset future training costs for the school district.
“We were pleased to move to this collaborative training model to obtain cutting-edge training for our educators in the most cost-efficient way possible,” explained Kelli May J.D., M.Ed, Assistant Director, Grades K-6, Pupil Services Department, Perrysburg Schools. |

State Biennium Budget response statement from Eric Benington, President, Perrysburg Board of Education |
The Fair School Funding Plan, which began phase-in during the last biennium budget, continues to be phased in during the next two years under the biennium budget that was just approved. This brings Ohio’s schools ? of the way to full implementation of the plan. It increases funding for public school districts by $1.54 billion over the biennium, an 11.7% increase. It also updates the base cost inputs to FY 2022. This is a win for Ohio students.
Perrysburg Schools had been capped by the state as far as how much state funding it received, so state funding was not keeping up with our rapid student population growth, which placed an incredible strain on our operations and local taxpayers. As the Fair School Funding Plan continues to be phased in, we will continue to fill in the gap, which will lessen the burden on our taxpayers. This is a win for Perrysburg students.
I wish to thank the members of the Fair School Funding Plan Workgroup as well as the many elected officials, especially State Representative Haraz Ghanbari, who took the time to listen, understand and worked hard to bring to our state a vision of what fair school funding can and should look for public as well as private school students.
As a member of the Fair School Funding Plan Workgroup, Perrysburg Schools Superintendent Thomas L. Hosler committed himself to over three years of developing a definable, defensible school funding plan. That work included constantly seeking the input of educators from across the state and refining the plan as needed to ensure that the final product was truly reflective of what it takes to successfully educate all of Ohio’s school children.
In addition to the time Mr. Hosler invested while working with this group for the past five years in countless presentations and meetings with a wide variety of stakeholders and legislators, he also devoted a great deal of time to evaluate the current research, investigate best practices, analyze state data and consider other school funding systems from around the country. He made several trips to Columbus to testify in front of House and Senate committees. The Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Ohio’s Superintendent Association, recognized Mr. Hosler in 2021 for the personal investment he made as part of the workgroup to develop the Fair School Funding Plan. Mr. Hosler’s involvement on this team was a difference-maker for our entire state and certainly Perrysburg Schools. We are very grateful to have him here serving our students and families. |

A community facility planning committee, composed of over 50 community members who applied, presented a unified recommended facility plan to the Board of Education to address student population growth and facility needs in the school district. The Board of Education, the Fiscal Office and Administration analyzed the recommendation. The Board of Education voted unanimously on June 20, 2023, to place a $140,000,000 bond issue (5.95 mills) on the November 7, 2023, ballot for the following:
• New 800 student elementary school
• High School – classroom/cafeteria additions, boilers/chillers and site work
• Ft. Meigs, Toth & Woodland – additions and deferred maintenance
• Jr. High – deferred maintenance
• Steinecker Stadium – new restrooms and entrance
• Transportation – garage addition |
