College Admissions in a COVID World Panel Discussion

On Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 12-1 p.m., Perrysburg Schools Foundation will host a virtual panel of Ohio college admissions representatives to discuss “College Admissions in a COVID World.” Colleges that will be represented include: Bowling Green State University, Miami University, The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati and The University of Toledo. The event will be moderated by Perrysburg High School’s Lindsay Czech, Director of College Advising, and Dawn Burks, School Counselor.

COVID-19 has impacted every part of life this past year and the college admissions process is no exception. Join us to hear what colleges saw in their applications in 2020-2021 and what they are expecting for the Class of 2022 and beyond. The presentation is free and open to the public and you may register using this link. A recording will also be made available after the event.

Please feel free to use this form to submit any questions you would like to see addressed during the panel by clicking here. Questions will be accepted until Sunday, March 28th.

Seniors - Scholarship Letters

Reminder to seniors - please bring in copies of ALL scholarship award notifications you have received (even from schools you are not planning to attend) to the Counseling office by Thursday, April 22nd. These scholarships will be listed in the graduation program. Individual dollar amounts will not be listed but a grand total will be announced for the Class of 2021.

Seniors - Decision Day

May 1 is the nationally-recognized date most seniors must inform colleges of their plans to enroll. This year we will be celebrating our seniors’ next steps on Friday, April 30th. On this day, we ask seniors to wear a T-shirt from the college they are planning to attend. If a senior is not planning to go directly to college after high school, they are encouraged to wear a shirt from their favorite college sports team. We will have some fun during lunches as well! So get your college T-shirt ready and we will see you there!

Summer Enrichment Opportunities

We have reached the time of year when we start to get numerous notifications from colleges and universities about upcoming summer enrichment opportunities. These are extremely valuable experiences where high school students have the opportunity to participate in academic programs on college campuses. Some include the opportunity to live in college residence halls throughout the session. In an effort to keep you informed about these opportunities, we keep an updated list of links for these programs on our web site -- please click here. You may look through these links and select a program that might be of interest to you based on the location of the program and your area of interest. We hope you will consider participating in one of these fabulous programs.

Counseling Department Advisory Board

PHS introduced a Counseling Department Advisory Board this past fall. The Advisory Board serves as a vital line of communication between the PHS Counseling Department and its most valued stakeholders: students, families, community members, teachers and administrators. The group meets twice a year and discussion revolves around counseling services being provided at the high school as well as open collaboration for new and innovative ideas to support the social-emotional growth and healthy development of all students. The team members use data and feedback to make decisions that support goals to provide services in line with the American School Counseling Association's standards for a comprehensive school counseling program. It's a fun and energizing group! Want to get involved? Contact Mrs. Sigg or Mrs. Bihn for more information!

Becoming a Link Crew Leader

This program is in its fourth year at the high school and is designed to provide a smooth transition for 9th grade students to the high school, so they have a positive experience and have a great start to the school year. Throughout the school year, Link Leaders will meet with student groups to discuss interests and concerns, share academic advice and plan social and academic activities. This yearlong orientation and transition program helps guide students toward high school success and creates a positive school culture and climate. Any Sophomore or Junior who would like to become a Link Leader should complete the application that is available on Schoology. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 7 at 3:45 p.m.

Honors Diploma

For the traditional diploma with honors, a senior student needs to attain 7 of the 8 criteria needed, which are listed in the student handbook. There are three new options, and you may earn any or all four of them, which include: STEM Honors Diploma, Arts Honors Diploma and/or a Social Science and Civic Engagement Honors Diploma. For more information about this, please contact your school counselor.

Summer School
We will be offering summer Physical Education and Health for new credit and if a student needs to make up a class for credit we will also have Grad Point sessions available. Applications for summer school will be available after spring break.
Summer PE - 6/2 through 6/22 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  Make up days are 6/23 & 6/24.
Summer Grad Point - Session 1: 6/2 through 6/21 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
Summer Grad Point - Session 2: 6/22 through 7/9 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

Counseling Resources
The school now has “Find Your Anchor” boxes available to those who are experiencing feelings of being lost, hopeless or even suicidal. Find Your Anchor is a grassroots movement aimed at suicide prevention, awareness and education. The premise of this movement is that everyone needs an anchor, “a dependable, stable, secure base that you can hold on to, one that keeps you firmly planted, no matter what winds or storms may come."  Students who have been struggling may take a box and find their anchor, along with resources and other items designed to offer support. The boxes are available in the School Counseling office and various locations throughout the school.
