New Face in the Counseling Office

dog sitting and wearing a leashMeet Taft, our first full time Facility Dog at Perrysburg High School! Taft will be spending a trial period at PHS with the potential to be placed “FUR-EVER.” Bringing Taft to PHS was made possible through private gifts including the support of Perrysburg Schools Foundation. The Facility Dog program at Perrysburg High School first began in 2019. Facility Dogs are specially trained to provide physical, social, cognitive and/or emotional assistance to individuals in schools/classrooms as well as in other settings, according to Circle Tail, the nonprofit organization that trained and placed Taft at PHS. These dogs have gone through at least a year of specialty training and have the capacity to assist and participate in the school system to help support students.

22-23 Course Requests Reminder

Students are reminded to please check their course requests for the 2022-2023 school year on PowerSchool. Any changes need to be communicated to their school counselor before May 1.

College Admissions News and Events

Seniors - Scholarship Letters
Reminder to seniors - please bring in copies of ALL scholarship award notifications you have received (even from schools you are not planning to attend) to the Counseling Office by Thursday, April 21st. These scholarships will be listed in the graduation program. Individual dollar amounts will not be listed but a grand total will be announced for the Class of 2022.

Seniors - Decision Day

May 1 is the nationally-recognized date most seniors must inform colleges of their plans to enroll. This year we will be celebrating ALL of our seniors’ next steps on Friday, May 6th. On this day, we ask seniors to wear a T-shirt from the college they are planning to attend (students not planning to attend college can wear a shirt of their favorite college sports team). In addition, we will hold signing events for students going into the military, the arts and the trades. More details about the signings to come in the near future. All seniors will be provided with a special seniors-only lunch on this day!

Juniors - SAT Prep Seminar

Perrysburg High School is offering an SAT preparation seminar to any interested juniors on Wednesday, April 6th (8:30-11:30 a.m.) and Thursday, April 7th (12:15-3:15 p.m.) in the Auditorium.  If students sign up, they are expected to attend both sessions. This is to help juniors prepare for the SAT School Day on Wednesday, April 13th.

The seminar will be led by Greg Owens of STARS Test Prep. The cost is $50 per student and sign ups are limited to 75 students. Payments may be made at the cashier's window with cash, check or credit card. If you would like to pay over the phone, please call Angie Adams at 419-874-3181 ext. 5008. If the cost of this program is a barrier to a student signing up, please contact Mrs. Czech at [email protected] to request Full Experience Funds.

Finding Your Best College Fit Presentation

Join us on Thursday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the PHS Auditorium for a live presentation given by the Editor-in-Chief of the Princeton Review, Rob Franek! Rob’s topic will be Finding Your Best College Fit. Any PHS parents/guardians and students are invited to attend!

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
We have reached the time of year when we start to get numerous notifications from colleges and universities about upcoming summer enrichment opportunities. These are extremely valuable experiences where high school students have the opportunity to participate in academic programs on college campuses. Some include the opportunity to live in college residence halls throughout the session. We hope you will consider participating in one of these programs. To search for different opportunities, please visit TeenLife.com.

Career Day
Career Day will be held on Thursday, April 14th. On this day, juniors and seniors are not required to attend school and are instead encouraged to schedule a college visit or career shadow opportunity. Freshmen and sophomores will have programming in the school building starting at 10:30 a.m. They will have the opportunity to hear from a wide range of professionals about their careers and their journey to get there.

April is the Month of the Military Child!
We take great pride at PHS in celebrating our military families and educating our Perrysburg Schools community about those families who serve our country. Many times, military families serve quietly, but their sacrifices on behalf of our freedom deserves recognition, and our thanks. If you are a military child, please fill out the Google Form linked here so we may recognize you (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerJ8tpcAC62rAg2et40oE9HJIxC-rBWVYvq_aqMMck8-jdGA/viewform).

Becoming a Link Crew Leader
The Link Crew program is designed to provide a smooth transition for 9th grade students to the high school, so they have a positive experience and a great start to the school year. Throughout the school year, Link Leaders meet with student groups to discuss interests and concerns, share academic advice and plan social and academic activities. This yearlong orientation and transition program helps guide students toward high school success and creates a positive school culture and climate. Any Sophomore or Junior who would like to become a Link Leader may complete the application that is available on Schoology. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 6 at 3:45 p.m.

Honors Diploma
For the traditional diploma with honors, a senior student needs to attain 7 of the 8 criteria needed, which are listed in the student handbook (https://www.perrysburgschools.net/Handbooks.aspx). There are three new options, and you may earn any or all four of them, which include: STEM Honors Diploma, Arts Honors Diploma and/or a Social Science and Civic Engagement Honors Diploma. For more information about this, please contact your school counselor.

Summer School
We will be offering summer Physical Education and Health for new credit and if a student needs to make up a class for credit we will also have Edmentum online learning program sessions available. Applications for summer school will be available after spring break.

College Credit Plus

CCP is an opportunity for students to take courses at Ohio colleges where they may earn both college and high school credit. For students to be eligible, they are required to watch the mandatory CCP video, fill out the electronic letter of intent by April 1st, apply to the CCP college and adhere to all of the college’s steps. Each college has a deadline to apply -
- Owens Community College - May 1
- The University of Toledo - May 1
- Bowling Green State University - May 15

Counseling Resources
The school now has “Find Your Anchor” boxes available to those who are experiencing feelings of being lost, hopeless or even suicidal. Find Your Anchor is a grassroots movement aimed at suicide prevention, awareness and education. The premise of this movement is that everyone needs an anchor, “a dependable, stable, secure base that you can hold on to, one that keeps you firmly planted, no matter what winds or storms may come."  Students who have been struggling may take a box and find their anchor, along with resources and other items designed to offer support. The boxes are available in the School Counseling office and various locations throughout the school.
