Community Update

Dear Families, Employees and Community Leaders,

As we prepare to wrap up the 2020-2021 school year, there is no doubt that this year will be remembered as an exceptional year. It has been heartening in this end of the school year season of recognition and reflection to celebrate the many accomplishments of our students and employees, especially in the face of such adversity. There is truly so much to be proud about. Thank you students, employees and families for your amazing achievements, hard work and support! Following please find a few updates that we hope you find helpful.

Quarantine Change
Perrysburg Schools will follow the new guidance from the Ohio Department of Health and Wood County Health Department regarding quarantine duration. Students and employees will now be able to return to school and work after 10 days, rather than 14 days, as long as they remain symptom-free. If you are currently under quarantine, you will receive an updated letter with your new return date. In August, we will provide all families with an updated document that will include the latest guidelines for the start of the 2021-2022. We are looking forward to a return to normalcy in many respects!

Vaccination Documentation Requested to Help Families
We respect families’ right to make decisions about their children’s health. It is a personal decision best left to families and their medical providers. While the number of students being diagnosed with COVID-19 and those having to quarantine is dropping, which is great news, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH)  is still having to quarantine students who have been exposed to COVID-19. This past week, the school district assisted ODH with contract tracing on more than 60 students. When the school district is asked to assist with contact tracing, families of students who must quarantine are contacted immediately and those students cannot participate in school or extracurricular activities. Students who have had the vaccine do not have to quarantine. The school district is trying to avoid a situation where students are sent home, not able to participate in activities, or miss events until the family can provide proof that the student has been vaccinated.

To help us ensure students who are fully vaccinated are not unnecessarily quarantined or miss events during the period where verification would take place, we are asking families to send documentation of your student’s vaccination, if applicable, once the final dose is administered, either after their second dose in a 2-dose series (such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines) or after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. You may email a scan or photo of the student’s vaccination card along with the following information to [email protected]: Student’s Full Name, Grade, Date of final vaccination (or only vaccination date if Johnson & Johnson). If you prefer, you or your student may bring the vaccination card to the school office to be scanned.

It is sincerely our attempt to reduce the chances of students unnecessarily missing school events or having families scramble to provide proof of being vaccinated.

COVID-19 Test Kits
Perrysburg Schools has free COVID-19 rapid test kits available to students and employees who are symptomatic. This will allow for more efficient tracings and possibly quicker return to school or work, depending on the situation. Students and employees who are symptomatic and receive a letter from COVID Support will be provided with more information.
