Girls Cross Country Finishes Strong at States

Capping off an incredible season, the Perrysburg Girl’s Cross Country Team did not disappoint at the Ohio High School State Meet in Obetz, Ohio. This team has been on a mission from the beginning of the season to show what a dominating force they are in running, by placing in the top ten for the State of Ohio, taking 7th as a team.

As the very best in the state came together to show what they have, the ladies came into Obetz to solidify their claim as one of the best teams in the state. With 176 runners competing, the girls set a strong pace from the starting gun to the finish. Still being one of the youngest teams to compete with two freshman and two sophomores in the lineup, they ran well in a very powerful field of runners.

Leading the way for the girls was Junior Aubrey Duhaime who had an incredible kick at the end to pass three runners and take 14th place and setting a new personal record of 18:33. Aubrey finishes the season with All Ohio honors for the second time in her high school career (1st team NLL, 1st team districts, 1st team regionals). Following Aubrey was senior Maddy Wagner with a time of 19:02 whose strong finish earned her the 30th (1st team NLL, 1st team district, 2nd team regionals) spot and also giving her the honor of All Ohio (only 4 runners from Northwest Ohio div. 1 received this honor, two of them being from Perrysburg). Freshman Anna Dalton finished in 62nd place with her time of 19:27 (1st team NLL, 1st team district, 1st team regional). Finishing 85th, Sophomore Brooke Daudelin, part of the Dynamic “Daudelin Duo” of Brooke and Sydney finished with a time of 19:46 (1st team NLL, 1st team district, 2nd team regional). Freshman and the second half of power “Daudelin Duo” is Freshman Sydney coming in 93rd with a time 19:51 (2nd team NLL, 1st team district, 2nd team regional). Sophomore Sophie Smith came in 111th crossing the line with a solid time of 20:14 (2nd district, honorable mention regional). Finishing up the strong team effort was senior Olivia Fenneken with a time of 20:30 (1st place NLL open, 2nd team district).

The season would not be complete without pointing to several major factors that contributed to the team’s success. First the parents who donated countless hours of support, time and items to show these girls how special they are and how much they believe in them. Secondly, something that you do not see in most school districts anywhere was Superintendent Tom Hosler, who has been a constant and avid supporter of the program and their success since he entered the school district, along with Athletic Director Chuck Jaco. It truly shows the belief in the athletes and the program by seeing such awesome support. Last, and certainly not least, was the coaching. Coach Jon Monheim and his assistants Ed Osborne, Steve Slivka and Karen Dolliver have put in more hours than any program towards the success of this cross country team, which is evident in part by the continued success and accolades the team has earned over the past ten years. This does not happen by accident but by a collective effort and with support from all involved.
