Program Spotlight
The Jacket Way

The Jacket WayThe Jacket Way creates common expectations for behavior across the school district. It reflects the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, the work of our school district’s Diversity Committee and is based upon the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports model, which sets out student and adult expectations to create a culture best suited for students to be academically, emotionally and socially successful.

PBIS is the evolution of 50 years of research and is currently used in over 9,000 schools across forty-four states. In this model, educators arrange environments, teaching and providing constructive feedback including reinforcement and correction. In 2013, the State of Ohio began to require school districts to implement positive behavior intervention and supports on a system-wide basis.

PBIS is a framework for proactively promoting and reinforcing common behavioral expectations for employees and students through observation and data. The mindset is positive in nature, with a focus on the consistency of desired behaviors.

Perrysburg students are currently learning the three R’s of The Jacket Way: Respectful, Responsible and Ready.

Student Spotlight
Allison Ludwig
6th Grade
Hull Prairie Intermediate School

Allison LudwigAllison Ludwig currently takes a STEM Creative Arts course. In this course she shows a high level of collaboration when working with her peers, according to STEM Instructor Mrs. Julia Whalen. “This was evident during our robotics unit and it required her to do a lot troubleshooting to make the robot run,” shared Mrs. Whalen.

“I really like how they give you options on which control to use, but they also use script,” Allison said. “It is the perfect balance in coding language and blocks!”

After exploring Apple Playgrounds, Allison was able to demonstrate her ability to code different games and apps. Currently, Allison is taking a Genius Hour course in the afternoon at Hull Prairie. This is a self-directed course in which all the students get to choose the subject of their learning based on their passions and interests. Allison has chosen to become a screenwriter/ director. She shared: “I want to write a funny and intense script, learn about appropriate costumes and make up for the story, film a few scenes and edit all of my work into one super awesome short film.”

Allison also participates in the Code4Her program at Bowling Green State University. It is a computer science mentoring program for girls in 5th-8th grade organized by the BG Women in Computing organization. In the first two sessions, they have learned basic principles of programming by using Lego EV3 Mindstorm robots (the dog robot pictured here with Allison).

We're very proud of you, Allison!
