Program

New Kids on the Block Program

New Kids on the Block ProgramThe Perrysburg Elementary School Counselors have scheduled a “New Kids on the Block” orientation program at Frank, Fort Meigs, Toth and Woodland schools each year for students in grades 1-4 who will be new to one of these buildings in the fall. This year’s event is set for Monday, August 14 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. in each elementary building.

The New Kids program originally was designed to aid families who were new to the Perrysburg community in making a smooth transition to a new school environment. Through the years, the definition of “new” has expanded to include those children who have moved from one residence to another within Perrysburg and will be attending a different school in the fall. Also invited to this program are students who have not actually moved but are simply transferring to a new building through the district’s intra-district open enrollment option or from charter or private schools.

At the “New Kids on the Block” orientation program, new students are dropped off and have an opportunity to meet other new students as well as their classroom Big Buddies. Buddies are student volunteers who are trained to welcome new students.

The Perrysburg Elementary School Counselors are: Jason Koval – Toth, Christin Lee – Fort Meigs, Alyssa Neumeyer – Frank and Nikki Ohms – Woodland.

Student

Lilly Brandeberry
Fort Meigs Elementary School

Lilly BrandeberryLilly Brandeberry, who just finished her fourth grade year at Fort Meigs Elementary School, enjoys gymnastics and participates in the YMCA gymnastics program. An avid pet-owner, she is always sharing funny stories about her dog, Remi, and she even received a new pet for her last birthday: Grace the Leopard Gecko!

Lilly loves to play volleyball with her sister Mia, and she participated in the Junior Jackets Volleyball Program after school in the spring. Her favorite books to read are the Froggy book series.

Being a student with Down syndrome, Lilly has overcome many obstacles and made so much growth. She is a shining example of The Jacket Way. She participates in the Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness every fall with her family and friends.

She is excited and a little nervous to go to Hull Prairie Intermediate and can't wait to meet new friends!

Michelle “Shelly” PredmoreMichelle “Shelly” Predmore, STEM Educator at Ft. Meigs & Toth Elementary Schools, will attend The CREATE Conference on June 8 at Anthony Wayne Schools. She is excited about the Maker Space demonstration they will have and what she will learn about incorporating creativity, STEAM content, innovation and design into the STEM curriculum at the elementary level. Ms. Predmore will then share this information when she collaborates this summer with the newly hired STEM teacher who will be serving students at Woodland and Frank Elementary Schools.

“Shelly is a tremendous asset to our school community,” shared Kellie Johnson, Principal, Fort Meigs Elementary School. “Students always have new and exciting experiences in her classroom. She is thoughtful in planning lessons that expose our students to the science, technology, engineering and math skills needed for their future. Most importantly, Shelly helps out whenever called. We know we can always count on her to help us with a project or lend a hand where needed.”

“When I think of Shelly Predmore, I think of a quiet hero who inspires our students and helps them reveal their special talents and skills,” shared Dr. Beth Christoff, Principal, Toth Elementary School. “Shelly is always willing to help students and staff alike. Her lessons are so engaging and motivating that students often don't realize they are also learning important life skills. Shelly understands the importance of giving her time and helping outside of the classroom with movie nights, walking door-to-door for the school levy or working at the school carnival. Shelly is service, dedication, inspiration and education all rolled into one!”
