Heinemann Boothbay Literacy Retreat

A dozen faculty members and administrators attended the Heinemann Boothbay Literacy Retreat over the summer. A grant partnership with Bowling Green State University and The University of Toledo, under the P3 District Partner Program, subsidized the cost of the program.

For the past ten years, the Heinemann Boothbay Literacy Retreat has helped attendees explore the types of experiences and instruction students need to lead literate lives. Aliteracy: Why Some Kids Won't Read and Write, and What We Can Do To Change That was the focus of this year’s retreat.

During the retreat, attendees worked in small and large learning communities, focusing on such questions as:
• What strategies help our students become responsible readers and writers?
• How do I build classroom libraries, confer with students and keep up with all the reading/writing I should do?
• What does it mean to become a community of readers and writers?
• How do I encourage parent/guardian engagement?

Other topics included helping struggling readers and writers, developing engagement – understanding best practices for tomorrow and discovering tech tools that extend learning.

Sending this team of teachers and administrators from Perrysburg Schools will help us kick off a plan to look at English Language Arts instruction throughout our school district.

Roman Ruiz

Roman Ruiz, who was a 4th grade student at Frank Elementary School during the 2017-2018 school year, is kind and tender-hearted and always taking care of others.

“Roman truly has a heart of gold and is respected by his peers,” shared his fourth grade teacher, Brooke Schulte. “In class, his learning is important to him and he makes sure he is doing what is asked of him.”

He also makes sure others are accepted in the classroom and at recess. He also is very respectful of students and staff members, and in this way truly exemplifies The Jacket Way.

Roman loves hockey, football, basketball and participating in the Let Me Run Program!

Tina Biami
Fiscal & Technology Specialist
Treasurer's Office

Tina Biami serves as Fiscal & Technology Specialist for Perrysburg Schools’ Treasurer's Office and is a year-round employee. She assists with financial reporting, accounts payable, software and procedural training for secretaries throughout the school district.

Mrs. Biami serves as the school district’s PowerSchool Project Lead. PowerSchool is the technology platform base for our student information system. She is also the project lead for the software that manages all students’ school fees. She also organizes and manages the financial aspect of the student laptop rollout each school year for grades 5-12.

“Tina has an amazing blend of technical capability, attention to detail and a strong sense of customer service,” shared Pam Harrington, Treasurer. “We are so fortunate to have someone of Tina’s caliber leading projects and building new and improved processes for our staff members and families alike.”

Mrs. Biami lives in Perrysburg and is married to Kevin Biami, retired U.S. Coast Guard. Their daughters McKenna and Maraea both attend Perrysburg School District.
