Toth Elementary School Diversity Fair

Toth Diversity FairToth Elementary School started a Diversity Ambassadors program with 4th and 5th graders this school year. They meet once a month where they have training about diversity using videos and discussion. Their big project for the year was hosting a Diversity Fair in early February.

This delightful evening showcased the many abilities, countries and nationalities that make Toth such a great place to over 300 attendees! Families and community agencies displayed items and shared opportunities, including: Henna tattoos, traditional clothing, music and food displays from India, Afghanistan, Native Americans, Laos, Vietnam and others. They also offered food samples from many countries as well as from local vendors. Agencies representing The Ability Center, Mental Health, The Sight Center of NW Ohio and Assistance Dogs provided interactive opportunities for those in attendance.

Student Spotlight

Kendra Williams
9th Grade

Kendra Williams and her Pharaoh Hound, ApolloKendra’s family breeds and shows Pharaoh Hounds. Her mother, Laura Hughes-Williams, started breeding and showing before Kendra was born. Kendra has really enjoyed being a part of the Dog Show world and being a Junior Handler has brought her much joy. As an 11-year-old, Kendra was a National Champion Junior Handler and has been in the top of the domain since then, as well.

“Kendra absolutely lights up when asked about her experiences in working with dogs as a junior handler,” shared Laura Davidson, PHS Dean of Students. “She will be very successful following her dreams of breeding and handling Pharaoh Hounds, as she has a passion and drive to be exceptional in this sport!”

In February, Kendra qualified to be a Junior Handler for Pharaoh Hounds at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City. Kendra said her favorite part was competing in the ring and doing well. She was pulled into the top 11 Junior Handlers, which made for a successful week for her and her Pharaoh Hound, Apollo. Kendra said she did not enjoy the NYC traffic, as it made Apollo nervous, too. Overall, it was a success and she's looking forward to future events and creating a name for herself and her dogs as a top dog show handler.

"Kendra is a hard worker who is always determined to be the best student she can be,” shared Jon Moravitz, PHS Math Teacher. “She consistently pushes herself to learn and better herself not only as a student, but as a person.”

“Kendra is very responsible, well-spoken and thoughtful,” shared Ron DeGregorio, PHS Government Teacher. “She has a lot of potential to be a leader in our class. She is quiet but has a strong presence!"

We’re so proud of you, Kendra!

Mrs. Jenny Mitchell M.S.
Fourth Grade Teacher
Frank Elementary School

Jenny MitchellMrs. Jenny Mitchell’s Fourth Grade English Language Arts classes at Frank Elementary School recently published two new iBooks to iTunes. These projects have been made possible by a grant from the Perrysburg Schools Foundation for a class set of iPads.

“My students were very excited to be published authors!” shared Mrs. Mitchell.

Mrs. Mitchell’s homeroom’s iBook is entitled The Sponges Dictionary of Narratives and may be downloaded at this link. Along the left side of this link are also links to other iBooks published by Mrs. Mitchell’s classes.

Illustrations and narration by Mrs. Mitchell’s students fills the collection of original narrative stories. The stories were produced and illustrated for a unit on narrative writing and are filled with tales that tell of exciting adventures, mysterious lands and harrowing escapes.

Mrs. Mitchell was selected to present this concept of publishing electronic books at the Ohio Educational Technology Conference in February along with a colleague from Alliance City Schools.

Thanks for all you do for our students, Mrs. Mitchell!
