Meet the Staff

SCOTT SCHLEUTER - Director of Bands

Scott Schleuter joined the faculty at Perrysburg High School as Director of Bands in the fall of 2004. He is responsible for coordinating all band activities and conducts the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensembles, and assists with Concert Band.

Mr. Schleuter received his Bachelor of Music Education degree and Master of Music in conducting from Indiana University, Bloomington, where he studied conducting with professors Ray Cramer and Stephen W. Pratt and clarinet with Howard Klug. While at I.U., he performed in the Philharmonic Orchestra and Wind Ensemble on clarinet, and the 300-member Marching Hundred for four years on alto saxophone, where he served on the undergraduate staff for two years and was selected as the Outstanding Band Member in 1994. He also was a cast member in the summer musical and opera productions of Hello Dolly, Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof, and Rigoletto. In 1994, he received the Frederick C. Ebbs Memorial Scholarship in recognition of outstanding contribution to the music education department and the Jacobs School of Music. During graduate school, he was concertmaster of the Wind Ensemble during their sixteen-day tour of Japan in 2000, served on the graduate staff for the Marching Hundred, and was the manager of the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic for 2000 and 2001.

Prior to his arrival in Perrysburg, Mr. Schleuter served as Visiting Assistant Professor, Assistant Director of Bands from 2002-2003 and Interim Director of Bands from 2003-2004 at The University of Toledo. He also served as Assistant Director of Bands at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois from 2001-2002, where the marching band participated in the 2002 London New Year's Parade, graduate conductor and associate instructor at Indiana University from 1999-2001, and Assistant Director of Bands at Bloomington High School North in Bloomington, Indiana, from 1995-1999, where the marching band participated in the 1999 Tournament of Roses Parade.

Mr. Schleuter has over 25 years of experience performing with and conducting bands and orchestras. He was principal clarinet with the Bloomington Pops Orchestra and the Bloomington Symphony, and has been a guest soloist with several high school bands and the Indiana University Concert Band. As a conductor, Mr. Schleuter has led his groups in performances in California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Canada, England, and Japan. Since 2002, he has been a faculty member with the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic, directing clarinet/bass clarinet sectionals, orchestra winds sectionals, and performing with the faculty woodwind quintet. He was also a staff member for the 2009 and 2011 Ohio Ambassadors of Music European Tour, an honor group of high school students from across Ohio who traveled to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany and Greece.

Mr. Schleuter is Past-President of O.M.E.A. District 1 and has served as chair for the O.M.E.A. District 1 East Solo & Ensemble Contest 2006-2010. He has also served as an adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association Solo & Ensemble Contest. He presented a clinic titled "The Musical Language - A Sound Approach for Better Musical Understanding" at the 2010 O.M.E.A. State Conference. His biography was selected for Who’s Who in America (2004), Who's Who of Emerging Leaders (2007), Who's Who in American Education (2007 & 2008), and Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2007). He is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association and National Association of Music Educators.

RYAN WILLIAMS - Assistant Director of Bands

Ryan Williams joined Perrysburg High School as Assistant Director of Bands in the fall of 2016.  Mr. Williams is an alumnus of Perrysburg High School and Bowling Green State University, where he majored in Instrumental Music Education with a specialization in percussion studies. During his time at Bowling Green, Mr. Williams participated in four years of the Falcon Marching band as a tenor drums player and was a member of the BGSU Concert Band, Wind Symphony, and Philharmonia. He was also a founding member of the indoor percussion ensemble ‘Axis’ based out of Tiffin University.

Mr. Williams was a member of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association, Student Percussion Association as historian and secretary, ProMusica, and the Percussive Arts Society while a student at BGSU. Mr. Williams began his teaching career in 2015 in the Tinora School District.  He looks forward to returning to his alma mater and being a Yellow Jacket once again!
 

ANDREA WHITING - Majorette Advisor

In 2002, Andrea Whiting joined Perrysburg High School's marching band staff as the majorette coach Andrea is a certified baton twirling teacher and judge through Twirling Unlimited. Twirling Unlimited, incorporated in 1981, is a non-profit organization of twirling teachers and judges. Andrea has been the director of the Perrysburg Twirling Sophisticates Marching Corps. and the competition team, Team Sophisticate, for 15 years. Many of her students have won state, regional and national championships as team and solo twirlers. In addition, since 2000, Andrea has had many students invited to twirl at Disneyworld as part of the Showcase of Champions at the Magic Kingdom and march in the Magical Moments Parade on Main Street, USA. Along with coaching the Perrysburg majorettes Andrea also works with the St. Johns and Lake High school's feature twirlers.
