Perrysburg Varsity Volleyball Update
The Perrysburg Varsity Volleyball team is holding strong with a 6-4 overall record halfway through this 2020 season. The Jackets are 4-3 in the very competitive NLL, looking to win even more in the second half of league play. One highlight of the season so far was a big win against #11 ranked Notre Dame Academy. The Jackets put all of their strengths together in a five-set win against NDA on September 14th.

“When this team works together, for each other, and communicates to the best of their ability, there is no stopping them,” shared head coach, Laura Davidson. She also points out the losses in the season have created a mindset of wanting to push each other harder and grow as a team. “Smart decisions in stressful and exciting moments are what we are looking for from the players,” remarks Davidson. “This is an excitingly competitive season and a fun team to watch; we are looking forward to more growth and wins,” Davidson says of the Varsity team.

Leading the Perrysburg Volleyball team with 192 digs is Sophomore Libero Avery Adamski. Adamski leads the NLL in digs per set with 5.3/set. Junior Middle Blocker Emily Seymour has stepped up in a big way, leading the NLL in blocks per set so far with 1.4 blocks/set. Seymour has also broken Perrysburg volleyball’s all-time blocks in a match record with 12 blocks vs. NDA on September 14th.

With over 100 kills each are pin hitters Emma Hunter and Julia Beer. These two powerful players are also sharing time in the back court, helping defensively and as options for attack. Back in action and making strides in the balanced offense is Senior Middle Blocker, Leigha Baldwin, after being out for a few matches with an early injury. Baldwin was a 2nd Team All-NLL selection last season and is looking to dominate in the middle through the remainder of the season.

Defense is being commanded by Avery Adamski, Payton Blaze and Hayden Fry, who are all doing their part to keep the team’s offense running efficiently. “The defensive energy and determination in the back row are a huge part of our strategy this season – we are proud of them stepping up in big ways,” says Davidson.

The team is rounded out by setter Giana Frayer, who is commanding the 5-1 offense most of the time, with some back up from Junior Lindsey Lazor. “With having quite a few returning front row players on our team, our setters have had to quickly adapt to a faster pace offense. They are progressing through each rotation with more confidence and knowledge of what type of sets each hitter prefers. They are finding their rhythm and really creating their own offense this year!” remarked Assistant Coach, Amanda Fintel.

Perrysburg Volleyball’s Junior Varsity’s overall record is 8-2 and 6-1 in the NLL. The Freshman team is 8-2 overall, with a 6-1 NLL record.
