New Face in the Counseling Office
Danielle Sidebottom is a new school counselor at PHS. Mrs. Sidebottom received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Hope College and her Masters Degree in School Counseling from Spring Arbor University. She has been a High School Counselor the past four years and was a Perrysburg School Counseling intern 5 years ago. Mrs. Sidebottom will be working with students with the last names Ju-N. She is looking forward to joining the Jacket Counseling team!

Seniors - Financial Aid
Seniors and their parents/guardians are able to start filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning October 1. Completing the FAFSA allows students to receive grants and loans to assist in paying for college. PHS will host a virtual FAFSA/Financial Aid Information Night for the parents/guardians of seniors in late September. Please keep an eye on Schoology and your email for more information about this event. If you are unable to attend the virtual event, Lourdes University in Sylvania will be hosting an event with similar information on Thursday, November 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the Franciscan Center.
Juniors/Seniors - Guided Pathway Support Program
SCOIR
We are pleased to announce that Perrysburg High School is introducing a new college planning system called SCOIR (this replaces Naviance). We have chosen SCOIR to help students navigate the college selection and application process because it is simply the best system available for discovering colleges that match personal as well as academic interests. Seniors will be required to use SCOIR to request letters of recommendation from faculty and to request the sending of academic transcripts. We are excited to be able to provide SCOIR to our students and families, and we feel confident that you will find it helpful and easy to use.
ACT/SAT Update
One of the biggest changes to the college admissions landscape during the current global pandemic, has been its impact on ACT and SAT testing. Tests have been cancelled and registrations have been hard to come by. As a result of this, both ACT and SAT have added test dates this fall (see above Important Dates for upcoming dates). If you are a student still planning to register for an ACT or SAT test and you feel you might qualify for a fee waiver, please see either Mrs. Czech or your school counselor. In addition, thousands of colleges have moved to a test-optional format where ACT/SAT scores are no longer a required part of the college admissions process. College Athletics and the NCAA Eligibility Center
All students who are interested in playing a sport in college (NCAA Division I or II) should create an account on the NCAA Eligibility Center website as early as sophomore year of high school. In order to be eligible to play, student-athletes must:
- Complete 16 core courses while in high school, with 10 complete before the start of senior year. You must work with your school counselor throughout high school to ensure that you are taking the right classes.
- For students interested in Division I athletics, a 2.3 core GPA in high school is required to participate in competitions. For Division II athletics, the core GPA requirement is a 2.0. Only courses that appear on PHS’ List of NCAA Courses will be used in the calculation of your core GPA.
- Division I athletics uses a Sliding Scale to match standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) and core GPA. The Sliding Scale can be found at www.2point3.org.

Grade Impact
It is so important to do well and maintain your grades. The most important year to begin this process is your freshman year. As you can see from the chart below it must begin early, because if you wait it becomes more difficult to bring your overall grade point average (GPA) up. This chart reflects on how much weight each semester carries in your overall grade.
