Social Media Supervision
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to share with you important information that has come to our attention. As you may know, children throughout the nation are talking about a very dangerous activity commonly known as the “Momo Challenge.” Reports indicate that children receive anonymous messages from the character Momo while on social media, who encourages them to commit violent tasks, including self-harm. It is unclear if the Momo Challenge is real or a hoax, but it has children, parents and guardians concerned.

Whether or not you have heard of this most recent threat, it seemed like an appropriate time to send a friendly reminder to families to be vigilant in monitoring your child's social media activity. Please use this as an opportunity to talk to your child about your expectations and the potential consequences of interacting with others on social media. Making sure children understand how to use the Internet safely is the first step in protecting them. Encourage your child to talk to you, a teacher or other trusted adult if they have any concerning interactions, whether they occur online or in-person. Perrysburg Schools’ faculty and staff members will continue to support students and ensure they feel safe at school.
While we are pleased that there have not been any incidents related to this in our school district nor serious injuries or tragedies in our community as a result, there have been several reports in the area. We are thankful families have shared this information with us and we felt it was our responsibility to let all of our families know about this potential safety concern.
