Hockey Team excels at Walter F. Ehrnfelt Tournament
The Perrysburg High School Hockey team brought home some hardware after traveling to Strongsville, Ohio, over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend to participate in the Walter F. Ehrnfelt Tournament. The Jackets opened up the tournament with a 5-1 win versus Gahanna Lincoln. Jakob Rickman (Fr.) held strong in the net, while Tay Schneider (So) captured a hat trick, leading the team in scoring. Other goals were made by Carson Schlatter (So) and Jacob Bilger (Jr). Caden Togrul (Jr) had 4 assists and Connor Seiple (Fr) had one assist.

Saturday night brought the team their second win of the tourney, when they went head-to-head with Columbus St. Francis DeSales, beating them 10-3. With Griffin Carlson (Fr) defending the net, the Jackets flexed their muscle and came on strong offensively. Sully Carlson (Sr), Schneider, and Evan Thomas (Sr) each found the back of the net twice, and Schlatter added two short-handed goals. Patrick Hanley (So) and Bilger added a goal each. Sully Carlson had two assists and Chase Nitschke (So), Schlatter, Hanley and Gunnar Daler (Fr) added one assist each.

The Jackets met their toughest competition on Sunday, when the team took on Columbus Academy. When Perrysburg found themselves down by a goal at the end of the second period, they dug deep and gave Columbus Academy a run for their money. The final score was 6-4, and it secured Perrysburg the top seed and a chance at the championship. J.R. Valentine (So) took the net for the Jackets, and goals were scored by Bilger, Cody Carlson (So), Togrul and Thomas. Schlatter turned up the heat, adding two more short-handed goals. Schneider led the team with three assists, while Cody Carlson, Togrul, Bilger, Andrew Winters (Jr), Sully Carlson and Thomas all had one assist each.

On Monday, the team found themselves up against the Columbus Academy again, this time for the championship. Rickman had the net for Perrysburg. In what seemed like a repeat from the night before, the team came out of the first period down a goal, with a score of 2-3. Sully Carlson scored unassisted and Tommy Rojas (Fr) put one in off an assist from Daler, in the first. In the second period, Cody Carlson tied it up off a pass from Seiple. With one minute left in the game, the Jackets once again found themselves down a goal. Going all in, and in true nail-biter fashion, Perrysburg pulled the goalie and went full force, with six skaters, up the ice. Within six seconds, Schneider scored the tying goal unassisted. With a little over three and a half minutes remaining in overtime, Perrysburg found themselves in an odd man rush. Togrul went wide with the puck, passing it to Sully Carlson, in the high slot. Carlson passed back to Togrul, who then sent the puck across to Thomas, who banged home the championship game-winning goal.
