Board of Education recognizes Jr. High STEM Teacher
The Board of Education recognized Jackie Derr, Perrysburg Jr. High STEM Teacher, for receiving Civil Air Patrol's Aerospace Education Excellence Award! In order to receive the award, Ms. Derr had to teach 6 aerospace/STEM-related activities relating to Aerospace Education Excellence. In the PJHS STEM lab, her students completed activities involving hot air balloons, AP bottle rockets and gliders, flight technology, build and fly a drone and a robots unit. In addition to teaching 6 aerospace/STEM-related activities, Ms. Derr engaged students in a special 2-hour aerospace/STEM activity - this was completed by launching the hot air balloons, launching the AP bottle rockets and gliders and flying the drones. One drone kit was obtained from the Civil Air Patrol (Ms. Derr applied for a grant) and the other drone kit was obtained through a grant through Perrysburg Schools Foundation.
