Perrysburg Athletic Hall of Fame induction set for Feb. 21
Perrysburg High School will host its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, February 21, 2020. The event will consist of dinner and a ceremony beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg, Ohio, however, doors will open at 3:30 p.m. Following dinner and the ceremony, the inductees will be recognized at halftime of the varsity boys basketball game against Anthony Wayne. The cost to attend the dinner and ceremony at the Hilton Garden Inn is $26 per person and the cost to attend the basketball game is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors/students. Inductees into the 2020 Hall of Fame* are:
Robin Nesper '95 - Robin was a multisport athlete in her years at PHS. She was a 4-year letterman in soccer, where she earned 1st team all-conference/district 3 out of her 4 years. Her senior year, she won the outstanding senior award and was a nominee for the outstanding woman athlete award. Robin was also a 3-year letterman in basketball where she earned 1st team all NLL and 1st team all-district her junior year. As if that wasn't enough, Robin was also a 4-year letterman in track. She earned NLL honorable mention in the 1600m relay her sophomore year and NLL honorable mention in the high jump her junior year. Robin was a recipient of the Archie Griffin Outstanding Female Athlete award in '91-'92. She then went on to play basketball at Owens Community College ('95 & '96) and then Salen-Teikyo ('97 & '98). During her time at Owens, she earned 1st team All-Conference and has the current scoring record. After moving on to Salem-Teikyo, Robin also earned 1st team All-Conference.
Robin Rayfield '74 - Robin was a varsity wrestler at PHS all four years of high school. He was a two-time NLL champion ('72 & '74) and an NLL placer ('73). Robin was a state placer (5th) in '73 and a state champion in the 112lb weight class in '74. He continued his academic and athletic career at The University of Toledo where he was a varsity wrestler in '75 & '76. He then went on to be a teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, assistant professor, superintendent and the executive director of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. During those years, Robin has also dedicated 43 years as a coach, winning 5 state championships, 13 NWOAL titles, 10 sectional championships and 9 district championships. He has been inducted into the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Anna Tunnicliffe (Tobias) '01 - Anna was a varsity letterman in 3 sports during her time at PHS. She was a 2-time varsity letterman in cross country, in which she made it to districts; a varsity letterman in swimming her senior year, in which she made it to states; and a 2-time varsity letterman in track and field, where she broke the 800m school record at that time with a 2:17. After high school, Anna went on to attend Old Dominion University where she sailed all four years. During those four years, Anna was a 4-time All-American, won 4 national championships, as well as the Female College Sailor of the Year award. After college, Anna went on to compete in the 2008 and 2012 World Olympics, in which she won the gold medal in 2008. She won 2 world championship titles, was a 4-time U.S. Yachtswoman of the Year and a 2-time Rolex World Sailor of the Year.
Bryan Vickers '01 - Bryan was a 4-year varsity letterman in baseball during his time at PHS where he earned many accolades. Bryan was 1st Team All Wood County ('01), 1st team all mirror ('01), 1st team NLL ('00 & '01), Louisville Slugger High School All-American ('01), Muzzuno All Ohio 1st Team ('01), Team Ohio Sunbelt Classic ('01), Ohio MVP and was then drafted out of high school in the 32nd round by the Seattle Mariners. From 1998-2001 Bryan had the fewest errors for a catcher with 0.956%. In 2001 he had a .463 batting average where he hit 10 home runs (school record) and a .975 slugging percent (school record). He then went on to attend Wright State University, where he achieved 1st team All-Horizon League ('03, '04, & '05) and held the career home run record of 42 up until 2018.
* The 1979 and 1980 Perrysburg Football teams are also being inducted in the 2020 Hall of Fame class, however, they will be inducted before the first home football game on August 28, 2020.
