Colleges visiting PHS
Representatives from many colleges will be visiting PHS throughout the fall. These visits are wonderful opportunities for students to learn more about colleges they might be interested in attending and to gain valuable information about applying, scholarships and financial aid. To see a complete list of colleges that will be visiting and to sign up (sign ups are required), please visit the Colleges tab in Naviance. You do not have to be a senior to attend!

Naviance
For those of you who are new to PHS and as a refresher to returning students and parents/guardians, Naviance is college planning software that PHS offers to all students. Over the summer, Naviance Family Connection was updated to Naviance Student and the website will look quite different than what you have seen in the past. As a freshman, every PHS student is given a Naviance account. Parents/Guardians may also request a code to create their own account. Through this site, students and their families may research colleges and start building a list of colleges in which they are interested. Senior year, we use Naviance to send transcripts and letters of recommendation to colleges electronically. Check out Naviance at https://student.naviance.com/perrysburghs. If you ever forget your login information, please see Mrs. Czech or your school counselor.

New Faces in the Counseling Office
Clarissa Brighty and Morgan CornsPlease welcome Clarissa Brighty as the new clinical counselor to the Counseling Office. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in December 2008 with a Masters of Rehabilitation Counseling and has been practicing at The Children’s Resource Center for the past five years. She will be available at the High School on Mondays and Thursdays and at the Junior High on Wednesdays. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns throughout the school year.

Please also welcome Morgan Corns. She is a Therapeutic Behavioral Services Community Worker. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a BA and is currently attending The Ohio State University working towards a Masters of Social Work. She will be providing home-based services, but will also be at the school as needed.

PSAT
All sophomores will be taking the PSAT beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10. Interested juniors are also encouraged to take the test, as it is the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarship consideration. If you are a junior interested in taking the PSAT, please bring a check made out to Perrysburg High School for $16 to the cashier’s office (across from the Media Center) no later than Wednesday, September 19. Sophomores will be automatically registered.

Link Crew
Link Crew MembersThis program is in its second year at the high school and is designed to provide a smooth transition for freshmen students to the high school, so they have a positive experience and a great start to the school year. This yearlong orientation and transition program helps gear the students up for high school success and creates a positive, whole-school culture and climate. This program is relevant for both academic and social/emotional development of our students. Link Leaders are trained to work with the incoming 9th grade class who are entering our school. Throughout the school year, Link Leaders will meet with student groups to discuss interests and concerns, share academic advice and plan social and academic activities.

Grade Impact
It is so important to do well and maintain your grades. The most important year to begin this process is your freshman year. As you can see from the chart below it must begin early, because if you wait, it becomes more difficult to bring your overall grade point average (GPA) up. This chart reflects on how much weight each semester carries in your overall grade.

Grade Impact Chart
FRESHMAN 1st Semester - 100%
FRESHMAN 2nd Semester - 50%
SOPHOMORE 1st Semester - 33%
SOPHOMORE 2nd Semester - 25%
JUNIOR 1st Semester - 20%
JUNIOR 2nd Semester - 16.6%
SENIOR 1st Semester - 14.3%
SENIOR 2nd Semester - 12.5%

Lunch and Learn for Juniors
As the college application timeline continues to get pushed further up into the junior year, students can no longer wait to begin the college and career process as a senior. It is important that our students begin early and receive information that will help them make more informed decisions and feel prepared. This fall we have an exciting opportunity for juniors called Lunch and Learn: College and Career 101, which will provide students information and help lessen the stress of their senior year. Students will be able to attend the informational sessions during their lunch period in the Media Center and learn more about Exploring Careers/College Majors, Searching for Colleges, Factors in Admissions, Understanding the College Application Process and Financial Aid & Scholarships. These sessions begin in November.

Request for College Photos
Did you visit a college campus over the summer and take some great photos? We are looking for new colleges to highlight in our newsletter and would love to use your photos! Please email Mrs. Czech or Mrs. Burks with your photos and you just may see them here next quarter!
