Back-to-School Guide for Families
Dear Families,

When Governor Mike DeWine closed all Ohio public and private schools on March 16, 108 days passed before the Ohio Departments of Health and Education released their COVID-19 Health and Prevention Guidance for Ohio K-12 Schools on July 2. During that time, virtually every private and public institution from hair salons to restaurants to amusement parks and places of worship were provided specific guidelines on how to resume operations. Schools, on the other hand, took the longest to develop and when released, ultimately left it up to each of the 610 school districts to develop their own plan based on state guidelines.

Over the summer, Perrysburg Schools employees have been busy preparing for the 2020-2021 school year. Two major steps needed to be taken before we could commit to our back to school plan. First, the school district needed the state guidelines, which were issued on July 2. Second, the Perrysburg Board of Education needed to approve the back to school plan for the 2020-2021 school year. On July 20, 2020, the Perrysburg Board of Education approved the school district’s back to school plan. With that approval, the school district is moving forward with our plan.

At the following link, please find a back to school guide of all COVID-19-related information we have assembled pertaining to the start of the school year. This document will provide basic information. Like all of us, there are probably more questions than answers remaining and please know we are working to provide as much information as possible. We appreciate your patience as we work through the details to start the year.

In the next week, principals will be sending out the annual back to school information. Additionally, other communications will become more frequent as we are 4 weeks away from the start of the school year, including details for laptop pick-up for grades 5-12 and transportation.

We know we cannot make everyone happy with this plan. We are not happy about it, either. We want students to be back in school every day without any restrictions. We feel our plan provides the greatest flexibility, as well as creating a balance between needs for students to be in school and the need to protect students, families and employees from this deadly virus. We will continue to monitor all available data and research and make improvements to the plan as we are able. We hope for a swift return to normal, but regardless, we will be here with you every step of the way, working to make the best of it for our students. That is The Jacket Way. We wish to thank you for all of your patience, questions, support and feedback during this trying time.

Peace,
Tom H.
