Program Spotlight
Peer Buddy Collaboration Program
Perrysburg High School

Peer Buddy Collaboration ProgramIntervention Specialists Chelsea Massaro and Mallory Gebers began a Peer Buddy Collaboration Program this year at Perrysburg High School. In this program, typical students are trained to become Peer Buddies and then they work with their fellow students who are living with disabilities.

“We have over a dozen phenomenal students who willingly give up their study hall period to work with their fellow students to create meaningful friendships,” shared Chelsea Massaro. “They are totally embracing The Jacket Way and including ALL students. I am in awe of the turnout for this new program and the maturity of the students who are serving as peer buddies. They lend an open hand, a listening ear and just opportunities for real friendships to develop!”

One uplifting experience that happened recently involved two peer buddies who invited three students to homecoming with them. “These students had a true high school homecoming experience, from eating dinner together before and taking pictures to dancing at homecoming and driving around afterward with loud music and getting slushies – these girls included them in everything!”

Student Spotlight
Brianna Kraus
8th grade
Perrysburg Junior High School

Brianna KrausBrianna Kraus, an 8th grader at Perrysburg Junior High School, is involved in Youth to Youth, Power of the Pen, the school spelling bee, soccer and St. Rose’s Youth Group.

She loves writing, reading and the Ninja Turtles!

This fall, she contacted one of her favorite authors to share appreciation of her books, and this led to working with her English Language Arts teacher Kerry Stoots to arrange a Skype session with the author. Many students got the opportunity to hear from the author thanks to Brianna's hard work and initiative.

“Brianna has the biggest heart and continuously seeks out ways to care for and help others,” shared Kerry Stoots. “She is a true light in the classroom! She comes into class each day with a smile on her face and her excitement for learning is contagious. She certainly embodies the Jacket Way each day!”

We’re so proud of you, Brianna!
