Jacket Gymnasts Districts and State Meet Results

Jacket Gymnasts placed 1st as a team with a 138.725 at Districts on Friday, February 23 at Anderson Arena on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The Jackets beat the second place team, Springfield, which had a 134.825. The Jacket Gymnasts traveled to Columbus for the team competition at Hilliard Bradley High School on Friday, March 2. Team members who represented Perrysburg included our seniors and Captains: Emily Mitchell and Breanna Plummer. Other seniors who competed and represented their team were Bailey Lewicz, Lydia Warton and Jo Westrin. Juniors who represented the Jacket Gymnasts at state were Emma Francis and Claire Hanley. Sophomores who represented the Jackets were Alexia Moehling, Kara Cousino and Karrington Scoble. Freshmen who were a major force in the return of the team to state competition were Caitlin Madigan, Katie Ruby, Gen Thomas, Kaiya Thomas and Emma Gardner.

Jacket Gymnasts also has individuals who qualified to State and competed on Saturday, March 3. Emily Mitchell qualified for the 4th year in a row on vault. She placed 2nd again at this year’s District tournament. Mitchell is only the seventh gymnast in the school’s history to qualify to state all four years. “It was a goal of mine coming in my Freshman year to make it to state all four years, just like my Coach Michelle and her daughter Macy,” she shared.

Senior Bailey Lewicz qualified for the first time to compete on vault by placing 5th at districts and in the all-around also placing 5th. In prior years Lewicz has qualified as an alternate. Freshman Caitlin Madigan qualified to state for the first time by placing 4th on vault, 4th on bars, 3rd on beam and 3rd in the all-around at districts. Senior Breanna Plummer qualified as the alternate on vault. This is her second time qualifying to state as an alternate on vault. Sophomore Karrington Scoble qualified as an alternate to state on bars with a new bar routine this year and placing 7th at districts.

Scholar Athletes who were recognized for their four-year high academics and four years on a varsity team at districts were Bailey Lewicz, Emily Mitchell, Breanna Plummer and Jo Westrin.

The Sportsmanship Award is granted to athletes who have been seen by peers and coaches as showing outstanding sportsmanship inside as well as outside the gym. The Jacket Gymnast receiving the award was Senior Emily Mitchell.

Five Jacket Gymnasts were named to the All District Team. To qualify, the gymnast must place in the top 10 in any event. Jacket Gymnasts Bailey Lewicz, Emily Mitchell, Breanna Plummer, Karrington Scoble and Caitlin Madigan received All District Team Honors.

At State, The Jacket Gymnasts placed 8th with a score of 138.725. This is the Jackets’ highest place since 2010. Senior Emily Mitchell placed 22nd with a 9.10 on vault. Bailey Lewicz placed 29th with a 9.0 on vault and 33rd in the all-around with a score of 33.85. Freshman Caitlin Madigan placed 23rd on vault with a score of 9.075, 35th on bars with a score of 7.775, 16th on beam with a score of 9.025 and 30th in the all-around with a score of 34.55.

The Jacket Gymnasts ended strong this season. They took each competition one at a time. They meet all of their goals this season of winning the NLLs for the third time in a row, winning Districts and retuning to State with a 10th place or higher finish. The team is going to miss the five graduating seniors next year, but with the five new freshmen this year, the team will look to meet the same goals next season.
