eSomethin.com earns Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Medal

For the fourth year in a row, student reporters from eSomethin, Perrysburg High School’s online student newspaper, have earned a gold medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) for their publication.

The evaluation process for medal awards spans three categories: essentials, visual and verbal. Student publications earn points on a rubric for their policies, written articles and visual appeal. Judges include media professionals, journalism teachers and faculty at Columbia University in New York City.

This year, eSomethin earned its highest score yet under CSPA’s evaluation since transitioning to online publication in 2012.

Although the students are pleased with this year’s accomplishment, they have their sights set on higher goals for the future: a crown award from CSPA.

“Above bronze, silver and gold medals, the Press Association awards silver and gold crowns,” explained Tim Kitson, eSomethin’s advisor. “These are reserved for the most prestigious student publications around the United States. We hope to one day join those ranks.”

“Perrysburg High School has continuously had a student publication since 1922,” Kitson shared. “We want to honor that legacy.”
