Girls XC wins District Championship

On a day where the weather conditions were less than ideal, the Perrysburg High School Girls Cross Country Team withstood the challenge of many quality teams to capture the 2018 District Cross Country Title. This victory is the fourth district championship in the last 6 years.

The team scored 83 points to edge runner up Notre Dame, which had 88 points. Ashland finished third with 94 points, Anthony Wayne was fourth with 100 points and Northview finished fifth with 118 points. There were a total of 14 teams and 105 runners in the race.

Leading the way for the Jackets was Aubrey Duhaime (19:28) and her 8th place finish. Ariana Gladieux (19:42) was the team’s next finisher in 12th place. Ariana broke 20:00 for the first time this season. Senior Jesse Menke, in 16th place, also broke the 20:00 barrier with her time of 19:51. The time gap of 23 seconds between the team’s top three runners was crucial in attaining the District Title. Hailey Lambdin (20:10) ran a season-best time and captured the 22nd overall spot in the race. The team’s final scorer was Haley Beier (20:28), who ran a lifetime best time and finished 25th overall. Eva Rando (21:02) and Emma Francis (21:14) finished 41st and 46th respectively, and beat many teams’ 5th runners, which helped fuel the Lady Jackets to a team title.

Next up for the team is a regional showdown on Saturday, October 27. The team is looking for a top two finish, which would propel them to the State Meet for the 4th time in the last 6 seasons. The race is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin, Ohio.
