SOPHOMORE INFORMATION
Pre-Explore Penta Day
Collage of Explore Penta photos
As a career exploration activity, all sophomores attended a Pre-Explore Penta meeting on September 26 during an Enrichment morning. Students were given information on the various programs available at Penta Career Center and were able to select two programs they would like to see when they take their Explore Penta visit on Friday, November 16. There is also an Open House at Penta Career Center on Monday, December 3 from 6-8 p.m. Students in every grade level, parents, guardians and community members are encouraged to visit, take a tour and talk with instructors to learn more about the programs and how students are prepared for careers as well as college. Many of the programs are now providing transcripted college credit as a number of students plan to continue their education at the college level.

JUNIOR INFORMATION
Junior Appointments
It's that time of year again when we will meet with our juniors to discuss what their plans are after graduation. Your school counselor will be calling you down or you can make an appointment during the months of October and November to talk about post-secondary plans, credits towards graduation, College Credit Plus information, ACT/SAT testing and anything else that will help to narrow down what you are planning to do after high school.

Lunch and Learn: College and Career 101
Each month, beginning in November, we have an exciting opportunity for juniors called Lunch and Learn: College & Career 101, which will provide students information about the college process and how to help prepare for their senior year. Students will be able to attend the information sessions during their lunch period in the Media Center and learn more about a variety of topics, such as: Exploring Careers/College Majors, Building a Resume, Factors in Admissions and the College Application Process and Financial Aid/Scholarships. Sign-up will be on Naviance at the end of October and the dates are: November 8, December 13, January 17, February 5, March 7 and April 11. A different topic will be discussed each month.

Humanities Program at Johns Hopkins
Are you interested in studying the humanities in college? From Monday, March 4 to Tuesday, March 5, 2019, Johns Hopkins University will welcome a small group of high school juniors with an expressed interest in the humanities to their undergraduate Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland. This expenses-paid program will include opportunities to learn more about the humanities experience at Hopkins, sit in on classes, meet current professors and experts in their fields and attend a college essay writing workshop led by their admissions office and faculty from one of their humanities departments. Participants will stay overnight in on-campus housing. The university will pay for all meals, lodging and transportation to and from campus. If you are an academically strong junior with interest in the humanities, please let Mrs. Czech know by Friday, November 30 so you can be nominated for the program.

SENIOR INFORMATION
November 1st Deadline Quickly Approaching
This is a reminder to all seniors that our recommended deadline for having all college applications and supplemental materials submitted to colleges is October 31. November 1 serves as an Early Action deadline for many Ohio colleges (The Ohio State University, Miami University, Case Western Reserve University, etc.) and it is critical to have all materials (applications, fees, transcripts, ACT/SAT scores and letters of recommendation, if needed) submitted by this date for admission decisions. This deadline also serves as a merit scholarship deadline for many colleges as well. Please see Mrs. Czech if you have any questions about this deadline or about how to have materials submitted.

FAFSA/CSS Profile
All seniors planning to attend college next year should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the assistance of their parents or guardians. Completing the FAFSA is the only way to receive college financial aid assistance (grants, loans and Federal Work Study) from federal and state governments. Some institutions require information from the FAFSA in order to award scholarships as well. In addition to the FAFSA, nearly 400 colleges and universities also require the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile to be completed in order to award financial aid. Both of these forms were available online beginning October 1. Please visit https://fafsa.ed.gov/ to complete the FAFSA and https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org/ to complete the CSS Profile. Please note: while the FAFSA is free to complete, there is a fee to complete the CSS Profile.

Scholarship Information
Student holding certificateA list of scholarships is updated on Naviance throughout the school year, although January and February are months with the highest volume of scholarships available. You may find the list under the Colleges tab (select “scholarships & money” then “scholarship list”). Also, in February, every senior will be able to fill out the Local Scholarship Common Application. Filling out this one scholarship application puts students in the running for over 50 local scholarships (including all scholarships through the Perrysburg Schools Foundation). Keep an eye out for more information about the application in February!

Lourdes University Financial Aid Night
Did you miss Financial Aid Night here at PHS? If so, Lourdes University is hosting their annual high school financial aid night on Thursday, November 1 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Franciscan Center. All high school seniors and any interested underclassmen along with their families are invited to attend. There is no cost to attend this event. You do not have to be applying to or planning to attend Lourdes to go. Light refreshments will be served.

Start Here Scholarship - Owens Community College
Students who plan to attend Owens Community College and have taken CCP classes at Owens have the unique opportunity to continue on the academic path they have started at Owens and earn their associate degree or certificate and enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university. This scholarship will cover tuition, for eligible students, and is renewable if criteria are met.
