Power of the Pen

After battling their way through both district and regional competitions, Perrysburg Junior High School 8th graders in Power of the Pen Elizabeth Diaz, Ella Griffioen and Carrie Martin advanced to the College of Wooster finals to compete among the top ten percent of writers in the State of Ohio. This ten percent is comprised of approximately 700 writers from over 260 Ohio Schools. The competition, which took place on May 25-26, consisted of three 35-minute writing rounds with the top fifty students advancing to a Power Round of writing. The participants were also fortunate to hear from guest author and keynote speaker Chris Crutcher, who has written many award-winning novels for teens. Coaches Rachel Davis and Kelly Simenson are extremely proud of the phenomenal writing and compositions created by these talented students!
