Project Invent
Hull Prairie Intermediate School

A Perrysburg Schools Foundation grant five years ago provided equipment that recently was used in a pilot program of Project Invent at Hull Prairie Intermediate School. The students in Jason Hubbard’s Intro to Design Thinking courses applied the principles of design thinking to invent a product that would directly impact an individual at their school. The students gathered data from real people with real problems to create real solutions. They practiced their engineering and design skills within the design constraints, which included creating a physical technology using a Makey Makey device and Scratch coding. The data gathered in this pilot will inform next year’s Project Invent at HPI to branch out and connect with project partners in our community to allow students the opportunity to make an impact beyond the school. Jason Hubbard was recently invited to discuss the program with the CEO of Project Invent and the company Makey Makey in a webinar presented to over 600 registrants!

Aaralynn Rodrigues
5th grade
Hull Prairie Intermediate School

Aaralynn Rodrigues is in 5th grade at Hull Prairie Intermediate School. She recently completed her first season of Girls on the Run. “She always pushed herself to be her best and gave her all at every practice,” shared Megan Kuns, 5th Grade Social Studies Teacher, Hull Prairie Intermediate School. “Aaralynn encouraged her teammates all season. She and her teammates also completed a community service project and made Thanksgiving placemats for a retirement home.”

In the classroom, she is a creative thinker and her ideas add to class discussions. She is taking on challenging assignments.

Carrie Butler
Intervention Specialist
Frank Elementary School

Carrie Butler is an intervention specialist at Frank Elementary School who serves students in kindergarten, first and fourth grade. Carrie has worked at Frank for eight years. She established the Buddy Bee program at Frank in 2016. This is a pro-social program offered to students in grades 1-4. Buddy Bees provide friendship opportunities through play-based activities. The activities are guided by several volunteers and paired with reflective thinking. The program runs twice a month, from November to May. Buddy Bees is funded through a grant awarded by Perrysburg Schools Foundation. PSF provided this funding for the past three years. The last grant asked for $500 to purchase Legos, snacks and other activity materials.

Additionally, Carrie Butler was a volunteer coach this year for Emily Alcroft's Let Me Run Program, helping Perrysburg students train for a 5K.

“Carrie goes above and beyond the call of duty!” shared Lou Marconi, School Principal. “She centers all decisions around the best interests of her students and advocates passionately for their needs. Frank is so lucky to have Carrie supporting our teams!”
