Change to School Calendar – March 17 Primary replacing March 10

Ohio’s Primary Election Day has been moved from March 10 to March 17, 2020. At the May 2018 Board of Education meeting, school leaders decided to no longer hold school on General or Primary Election Days. Since the date of the March primary had been March 10, that was the date on the school district’s calendar distributed at the beginning of the school year. At this week’s Board of Education meeting, a revised calendar was adopted to move the professional development day to March 17, so school will no longer be in session on that date, and we will now hold school for students on March 10 instead. The revised calendar is available on our website and at this direct link: http://www.perrysburgschools.net/Downloads/2019-20%20School%20Year%20Calendar-revised%20111819.pdf

Many of our school facilities are used as polling places. Parking, traffic and building access have been some of the reasons why not having students in session made more sense. In more recent years, school leaders have also been concerned regarding school safety, especially since it is a challenge to keep doors locked and students separated while members of the public are moving in and out of the school throughout the day.

In addition, we welcome the opportunity on these days to provide professional development training for our employees and to give them opportunities for district, school and grade-level meetings that can be a challenge to schedule when we are in session.
