Teaching ProfessionsPenta Career CenterPerrysburg High School Satellite
Teaching Professions at Perrysburg High School is a senior program that offers students the opportunity to explore the career of education with a focus on PreK-Grade 12, including careers in education besides a classroom teacher. Students explore teaching by completing four field experiences in a classroom with a mentor teacher (early childhood, middle childhood, special education and a student choice). Students have the opportunity for college credit that transfers to any Ohio public university.
Students also develop soft skills, such as leadership, networking and time management, by participating in our student organization Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
Educators are needed across the country. We have seen a drop in the number of students enrolling at universities as a college major. There are severe shortages in areas such as math, science, special education and foreign language. In class, students discuss the need for educators and more specifically the areas of need.
“This program is a great way for students to decide if education is a good career choice for them,” shared Teresa Nissen, Teaching Professions Instructor, Penta Career Center - Perrysburg High School Satellite. “Students gain self-confidence and learn the importance of networking within the education field.”
Brooke FeatherstunFourth GradeWoodland Elementary School
Brooke Featherstun is in 4th grade at Woodland Elementary School and is a great example of the Jacket Way! She is a member of the school’s Safety Patrol and outside of school, she is involved in Girls On The Run and travel volleyball.
“As a student in my class last year, Brooke was always reliable and extremely kind,” shared Mrs. Sarah Thompson, Brooke's 3rd grade teacher. “She is always willing to go the extra mile to help out a classmate and push herself academically. She is a student who can always be counted on to follow the Jacket Way. It is a joy to know Brooke!”
“She was chosen as a Big Buddy assistant for the New Kids on the Block program and has been a wonderful friend to the new students in our class,” shared Mrs. Emily Bagdonas, Brooke's 4th grade teacher. “While working with her partner recently during math, I witnessed Brooke talk to another student about the steps she needed to take to solve the problem. It was a moment I wish I would have recorded because it is exactly the way I want my students to help each other without just giving them the answer. She is a natural born teacher and a true leader in the classroom.”
“Brooke is a hard worker in music class,” shared Mr. Curtis Klotz, Music Teacher. “During small group musical activities, Brooke demonstrates creativity and leadership. She has a positive attitude that helps her excel in the musical tasks she applies herself to.”
“Brooke does a great job in the STEM lab!” shared Mr. Ryan Baightel, STEM Teacher. “She always works hard and goes out of her way to help her classmates. Brooke is a constant role model to her peers.”
“As a participant in Girls on the Run, Brooke leads by example,” shared Ms. Jennifer Marlowe, Teacher/Girls On The Run Coach. “She is a great friend, and works to show students in and outside of GOTR the importance of perseverance and integrity. I am so proud to have her on our team!”

Kim SchumakerFort Meigs Elementary School& Perrysburg Transportation
Kim Schumaker wears two important hats in our school district. She greets students on her bus when she drives them to school in the morning, and ensures they get home safe. After her morning bus route, she changes gears and is Fort Meigs’ playground monitor.
“Kim knows each child in the school and makes recess fun and safe,” shared Kellie Johnson, Principal. “She coordinates games, activities and is always thinking of fun new ways to engage students.”
Outside of school she is heavily involved in equestrian activities and teaches tap classes.
