Amanda Queen earns Perrysburg Schools Shining Star Award

Congratulations to Amanda Queen, who has been named Perrysburg Schools’ Spring 2018 Shining Star Award Recipient. She is a Paraprofessional at Frank Elementary School. The award is presented twice annually to an employee who is nominated by his/her colleagues as a Shining Star of our school district. A panel representing a cross-section of the district chooses the award recipient from a pool of nominees. The Griffioen Insurance Agency also recognized her with a gift certificate at the May Board of Education Meeting.

Amanda Queen’s colleague, Chrissy Nackowicz, submitted the following nomination:

Amanda Queen is beyond wonderful! While I was out sick for a few days she helped keep the class together, organized papers, helped with behavior management, and so much more. After I was out, she came right up to me and asked what I needed and she wanted to know how she could help me! She has a lot going on in her own life right now, yet she is so selfless and offers her time to me and our class at all times.

I thank her all the time, but I do not think she realizes how much I really appreciate her hard work and dedication to the students and everyone she works with in our building! Amanda does an amazing job working with students, but she takes it to the next level and is an advocate for the students she works with each day. She is always looking out for what is best for the children and she notices things that other teachers might miss.

Amanda connects with the students and they love working with her. The students run to class to see her and they are eager to learn when they get to work with her. I have seen a tremendous amount of reading progress with 2 students in my class. Amanda has been such a big part of their success. She documents progress and takes notes like an intervention specialist. Her anecdotal notes are so helpful to teachers and they provide help with future planning and progress reports.

If Amanda is working with students who need to step out for intervention or other services, she immediately changes gears to help the other students in the room. If students are working independently, Amanda finds things to copy and helps organize the room.

Amanda does so much more than the duties of a paraprofessional. She offers help to everyone and she is always one hundred percent dedicated to the students and staff at Frank Elementary.
