PHS Varsity Tennis Team aspires to earn 7th Straight NLL Title

The 2019 Varsity Tennis Team began the NLL season with 2 wins over Sylvania Southview and Springfield. The 2019 Varsity Tennis Team has 9 new members this season. Last year's team that captured 3rd place honors in the state of Ohio graduated 8 seniors. Junior Sydney Onest and Senior Lydia Ellinger are the 2 returning letter-winners from last year.

Sydney Onest took over at 1st Singles this season after winning the 2nd singles position in the NLL Championship in 2018. She beat Blackford of Southview 6-0, 6-0. Lydia Ellinger enters the starting lineup this season as the 2nd singles player. She beat Allen of Southview 6-3, 6-1. Freshman, Mona Abdul-Aziz, is playing 3rd singles this season. She beat Galambos of Southview 6-4, 6-1.

At the 1st Doubles position, Junior Julia Fujita and Senior Mia Schmittenberg took on Rees and Kim of Southview, winning 6-1, 6-1. Junior Grace Reiter and Senior Lexi Siefke defeated Lowenstein and Lee at the 2nd doubles position, winning 6-2, 6-0.

The team traveled to Springfield on August 29. 3 hours later they captured another 5-0 victory! Onest had a 3 set battle against Shah from Springfield by winning 5-7, 7-6, 6-1. Ellinger beat LaMontagne 6-1, 6-1 and Abdul-Aziz won 6-4, 6-1 over Welker. Fujita/Schmittenberg beat Daney/Jewell at 1st Doubles 6-0, 6-0 and Reiter/Siefke won 6-4, 6-3 over K. Clark and Z. Clark at 2nd Doubles.

Next up for the Jackets are an away match on September 5th at 4:30 p.m. against Napoleon and a home match on September 6th at 4:30 p.m. against Walsh Jesuit at Perrysburg Tennis Center.
