Madaras recommended as new PHS Boys Cross Country Head Coach

Keith Madaras has been recommended to the Perrysburg Schools Board of Education to be named the new head coach of the Perrysburg High School boys cross country team for the 2015 season. Mr. Madaras brings over 15 years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels to Perrysburg.

“We welcome Keith to the Jacket coaching family. He brings years of experience as a cross country coach and will be good for our student athletes on the cross country team. I’m excited for the boys team to have Keith as the new head coach,” said Perrysburg Athletic Director Ray Pohlman.

Prior to coming to Perrysburg, Mr. Madaras served as an assistant coach at Toledo St. John’s Jesuit where he helped the Titans to seven conference championships, six state top ten finishes and a state runner-up finish in 2006 in his eleven years with the school.

Mr. Madaras began his coaching career at Bowling Green State University assisting both the cross country and track and field teams after his graduation there in 1992. While running for the Falcons, Mr. Madaras was an eight time All-Mid American Conference winner and was a captain of both the cross country and track and field teams.

An 1987 Eastwood graduate, Mr. Madaras coached the Eastwood Middle School cross country and track teams for four years before coaching at St. John’s. Mr. Madaras currently teaches science at Eastwood High School.

In addition to his coaching experience, Mr. Madaras has served as an Ohio High School Athletic Association Track and Field official for 18 years.

“I believe in hard work and dedication to the sport,” said Mr. Madaras. “I like to bring science into the training by keeping up with the anatomy and what science says benefits and what doesn’t benefit the runners.”

“But what’s paramount is keeping it fun. It has to stay fun for the kids,” added Mr. Madaras.

Mr. Madaras indicated that he’s excited for the challenge that Perrysburg holds.

“It’s a young team so it is a great time to come into the program and start to mold young men and build tradition here. I’m excited to jump into the Perrysburg community,” Mr. Madaras commented.

The Jackets begin training for their season on August 1 with their first meet scheduled for August 29 at the Seneca East Invitational.
