Update on Recovery of Stolen Funds

This note is to let you know that Eric Whitson, a former employee of Perrysburg Schools, was indicted today by the Wood County Grand Jury. The felony charges are for theft from Perrysburg Schools, among others.

Today’s indictment is a significant step toward ensuring Eric Whitson is held accountable for violating the public trust. Eric Whitson is accused of stealing, ultimately, from the students we are all pledged to serve. It goes without saying that these actions are unacceptable.

As soon as we were aware of the charges against Mr. Whitson last year, we immediately terminated his employment, requested a State Audit, cooperated fully with the Wood County Prosecutor’s office and contacted an independent accountant for counsel on better structuring internal controls to prevent anything like this from happening again.

We are now awaiting the findings from the State Auditor, which will give us more specific information on this matter. Therefore, we can only make limited comment until the audit is released. In the meantime, please be assured that the Board of Education is committed to seeking restitution from Mr. Whitson and to strengthening our internal controls to better safeguard the taxpayer money entrusted to Perrysburg Schools.

Sincerely,
Jarman Davis III, President
Board of Education
Perrysburg Schools
