Board to reconvene regarding Treasurer’s Position

Today, the Perrysburg Board of Education completed the Loudermill hearing with Treasurer Matt Feasel, who was placed on paid administrative leave on Tuesday, February 2. The purpose of the hearing was to provide Mr. Feasel with an opportunity to respond to the following allegations:

1. Failure to properly execute the responsibilities of his position, including failure to adequately supervise subordinate employees, failure to impose and implement appropriate checks and segregation of duties to safeguard the District’s monies, failure to require timely deposit of funds; failure to monitor purchases and documentation for use of District credit cards; and, failure to require proper documentation of revenue collections; and

2. Failures of good performance resulting in a joint and several finding against him by the Ohio Auditor of State in the amount of approximately $91,588 related to his subordinate Eric Whitson’s embezzlement and/or misuse of District funds and credit cards and his failure to monitor such use or have systems in place to prevent such misuse or alert in the event of misuse; and

3. Failures of good performance resulting in a joint and several finding against him by the Ohio Auditor of State in the amount of approximately $3,751 related to improper use of the District’s credit cards by District employees for non-District purposes and his failure to monitor such use or have systems in place to prevent such misuse or alert in the event of misuse; and

4. Failure to perform his responsibilities under the terms of his employment contract and Board Policies.

This hearing is a required step in providing Mr. Feasel his mandated due process under law. It is necessary prior to the Board of Education taking possible disciplinary actions against him.

The Board of Education announced that Mr. Feasel will be on unpaid leave.

The Board will reconvene on Monday, February 8 at 7:30 a.m. to authorize or appoint a deputy treasurer and on Thursday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m., in the Board Room, 2nd Floor at the Perrysburg Schools Board Offices, 140 East Indiana Ave., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.

By completing this due process step and giving full consideration to the matter, the Board is preparing for the next step of this employment action. “We are moving forward with this issue and looking forward to its resolution,” stated Board President Jarman Davis. “It’s a very serious matter and we will take the time needed to ensure we are making the best decision for the schools and the community.”
