The Perrysburg Law &
Government Explorer Post has entered three teams in the statewide high school
mock trial competition sponsored by the Ohio Center for Law Related Education.
The three teams are composed
of students from Perrysburg High School who are Explorer Post members. Several
have competed in mock trial since they attended junior high school.
Team Patrick Henry is
composed of: Emily Cottle, Alex Miller, Will Robinson, Henry Yang, Alex Katko,
Megan Galle, Steven Hugg, Areeb Ahmed and Ryan McConnell.
Team Geek Squad consists of
Nehal Methi, Julia Gonzales, Alexandra Phlegar, Noah Rossler, Alisha Ohanian,
Alisa Leong, Sharvari Brahme and Abdur Khan.
Team Food Fighters members
are: Kaity Laumann, Meric Pope, Savannah Guy, Mahnur Khan, Zack McKenna,
Jillian Craig, Ceimoani Bumrah, Emma Viles and Lee Davenport.
The case scenario this year
presents a Constitutional Eighth Amendment issue when an inmate at a juvenile detention
facility is injured during a food fight. Each team presents both sides of the
Constitutional argument in an attempt to persuade the mock trial judges.
The teams are advised and
coached by Attorneys Kent Riesen, Jake Studer and retired Perrysburg Municipal Court
Judge S. Dwight Osterud. Dr. Beth Rohrabacher, retired administrator from the
Perrysburg School District; Pinky Edens, witness coach; and Explorer Alumni
Krista Huff, Russ Quick, Nick Bade and Rachel Marvin assist.
The district competition is
scheduled for January 30, 2015 in Wood County Common Pleas Court. The regional competition
is scheduled for February 20. The teams must win all trials to advance to state
competition in March. This is the 14th year of Mock Trial competition for the
Explorer Post.
