School Board Seeks Interested Applicants for Vacant Board Seat

Perrysburg Schools Board of Education has a vacancy on its school board with the resignation of Cal Smith effective August 15, 2016. The vacant seat on the school board term expires on December 31, 2017.

According to the Board’s Bylaws, all applicants are to submit a notice of their interest, in writing, to Superintendent Thomas L. Hosler ([email protected] or Thomas L. Hosler, Perrysburg Schools, 140 E. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg OH 43551) by Tuesday, August 30 by 12:00 p.m. The Board shall interview interested candidates to ascertain their qualifications. Interested applicants are encouraged to attach qualifications such as a resume, and to share community involvement in support of the schools as well as examples of collaboration. All applications are public records and are therefore subject to public disclosure.

Interviews will be held in the later afternoon and/or early evening on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the Commodore Building (140 E. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg OH 43551).

According to the Ohio Revised Code, an individual serving on a school board in Ohio must be:

• a U.S. citizen,
• at least 18 years old,
• a resident of the state for at least 30 days preceding the appointment,
• a resident of the school district for at least 30 days preceding the appointment, and
• registered to vote in the school district for at least 30 days preceding the appointment.

Appointment by the Board to fill this vacancy shall be by majority vote of the remaining members of the Board. If the appointee wishes to continue serving on the school board, s/he will stand for election on November 7, 2017.

Perrysburg Board of Education Vacancy Timeline

• The resignation is effective August 15.
• The deadline to submit a letter of interest for the vacant Board seat to the Superintendent is Tuesday, August 30 by 12:00 p.m. All letters must be received by this deadline.
• Interviews of all applicants are scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2016. Interviews are tentatively scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
• In the event that the Board fails to appoint a member to its Board by Wednesday, September 14, 2016, the Wood County Probate Court would be required to fill the vacancy.
