There will be no regular classes at PHS on Wednesday, October 19th.

Freshmen and Sophomores will be taking the PSAT beginning at 8 a.m. At the conclusion of the PSAT, you will be having lunch, participating in a Naviance demonstration (Naviance is our college and career planning software that is free for every student) and watching the movie “Bully” in the afternoon.

Juniors who signed up for the PSAT will take the PSAT beginning at 8 a.m. At the conclusion of the PSAT, you will be released for the day.

All Seniors and Juniors NOT signed up to take the PSAT will be participating in either a career shadow day or college visit day. If you do not make your own plans for this day, there will be limited availability for busses to local colleges. If you are not riding a bus to a local college with PHS, you must have submitted absence paperwork to the main office or you will be marked absent for the day.

New Face in Counseling Office
Angela HowardPlease welcome Angela Howard as our intern within the counseling office. Angela graduated from Heidelberg University in May 2016 with a Master of Arts in Counseling with a focus in Clinical Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and is currently practicing in a community mental health setting. She is also currently pursuing her license in school counseling and performing a 600-hour internship. She will be available Monday through Wednesday of each week throughout the school year. She will be a great resource to the students, parents and community of Perrysburg. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns throughout the school year.

Pre-Explore Penta Day
Sophomores attended a Pre-Explore Penta meeting on September 28 during an Enrichment morning. Students were given information on the various programs available at Penta and were able to select two programs they would like to see when all sophomores visit Penta on Friday, November 4. There is also an Open House at Penta on Monday, December 5 from 6-8 p.m. for students, parents and community members. Many of the programs at Penta now provide transcripted college credit for their career programs as a number of students continue their education at the college level.

Upcoming College Visits
Throughout the fall, we have had many college admissions representatives visit us here at Perrysburg High School and we still have several visits in the coming weeks. If a student would like to attend any of these upcoming visits to learn more about these colleges and what they have to offer, please sign up on Naviance under the ‘Colleges’ tab.

Jacket Way Update
We will be continuing our class meetings again this year; however, they are going to look very different than they did last year. We received good feedback through our survey that was given at the end of the last school year from faculty members and students and plan to address the suggestions. The first major change is that we are moving away from bullying and toward the big idea of helping students learn some coping skills.

Junior Appointments
It's that time of year again when we will meet with our juniors to discuss what their plans are after graduation. Your school counselor will be calling you down or you can make an appointment during the months of October and November to talk about post-secondary plans, credits towards graduation, College Credit Plus information, ACT/SAT testing and anything else that will help to narrow down what you are planning to do after high school.

Tutor Support
Students may need some support now with their academics. Here are three different resources to help students succeed:
Khan Academy
SOS Tutor
Math in ACTION Hub

Spotlight On Case Western Reserve University and John Carroll University

Case Western Reserve University

Case Western Reserve UniversityAdmissions Information: When you are admitted to Case, you are admitted to all four of the schools within the university, which makes transferring majors seamless. More likely than not a student will be deferred in their initial attempt to enroll in Case. Less than half of the students in the incoming freshman class get initial acceptance. Then they go through a more detailed process to hand pick students off the waitlist.

Campus: A fast paced environment, with the feel of being in a metropolitan city.

Academics:
Weatherhead School of Business is known for their internships and begin sophomore year. Bolton School of Nursing requires 1,500 clinical hours, which is #1 in the nation. Engineering and Technology is another great college that is known within the university.

John Carroll University
John Carroll UniversityAdmissions Information: Jesuit University that builds on Intellect, Character, Leadership and Service. They super score the ACT and look at each student holistically. GPA and test scores matter, however faith-based work (even in a non-faith based setting) matters as well.

Campus: Suburban environment close to an urban setting. Many renovated historic buildings and students are very connected. Many students who attend come from a private school experience.

Academics: Boler School of Business has a great accounting and entrepreneurship program. The health professions program is known for their biology, chemistry and neuroscience programs.
